Norman Rickett/nooney Ricket

I played this ealy 70's (Probably Cleethorpes Pier) purchaced from John Anderson and i'm sure my copy of brand new day is Nooney Ricket, and latter copies turned up as Norman Rickett, I also have aother track by him as Norman Rickett, It was rumoured the Norman Ricket copies (Brand New Day) were re-issues or boots untill the other titel turned up, anyone have a clue on this one, just curious, thanks in advance.

There are also two different label designs, with IT in Big letters (Nooney Ricket) and another design with IT in Small letters (Norman Ricket).

J. Manships book says original on bright silver IT label, and the boot is on a gray label.

The flip "Player Play On" is an excellent record as well.

heres a scan of the silvery "Norman Rickett" copy...which i think is orig...(too much going on in the deadwax for it not to be)...altho Tim A said to me at the time ..."the jurys out on that one"....check out Nancy Wilsons super version of "player play on" off her 1967 "Nancy" lp.....Norman (Nooney) Rickett was a member of the LA psych band ..Love in one of their later lineups...1968?

You're right about the Love connection, think the lineup was pretty fluid so he may not have been in the band for that long. As for the scan, I'd never noticed the pronounced dip towards the centre - deffo kosher to me!

Might be worth pointing out that both sides on this disc (and the other IT release by Rickett) are written, arranged and produced by Anthony Curtis and Lonnie Lee Tolbert - the same guys who were Curtis, The Brothers on BELL and The Curtis Brothers on CAPITOL.

That's true - but Arthur Lee had earlier been in Nooney Rickett's group along with several other future members of Love. At one point all of the members of Nooney's group, including Nooney himself, were in Love at the same time. So techically it would be more correct to say that Arthur Lee was a member of Nooney Rickett's band, rather than vice versa...

Sorry for the pedantry!

BTW I love Nooney's garage-soul version of James Brown's "Maybe The Last Time" on Dimension. Apparently his stage act was largely modelled on JB's, and the IT record, good as it is, is not at all typical of what he was like live in the 60s.

Nooney's still around, my colleague Mick Patrick conducted a brief interview with him a year or so ago for one of our Ace projects...
