Teddy Pendergrass "When Somebody Loves You Back"

Bill Paul "Bring The Family Back" (still a stone cold classic!)

Yesterday I had the blues

I miss you

If you don't know me by know - Harold Melvin & Bluenotes

Days go by - Bobby Bennett

Regina

I lied - Bunny Sigler

Can't quit your love- Bobby Taylor

Forever- The Ebonies

Now that we've found love - O'jays

I like being a woman - Three Degrees - mainly because they did it live on the "Wheel tappers and shunters" TV show back in the day and the title makes me laugh.

The list is goes on and on but if I were to pick a favourite it would be "Somebody told me" Teddy Pendegass.

three great tracks there, i,d also add.............INTRUDERS-NICE GIRL LIKE YOU

O'JAYS-I LOVE MUSICthumbup.gif

"The Love I Lost" has got to be the all-time Philly corker, but the Intruders' "(Win, Place or Show) She's A Winner" always makes me smile, and I love all the Jean Carns mentioned above, plus "I Bet She Won't Love You Like I Do". smile.gif

And Webby, my favourite pasta shape is penne. You've got to give a passing nod to the classic spaghetti, but it just hasn't got the sauce-holding qualities of those lovely little tubes wink.gif

The Three Degrees - "I Didn't Know". Never gets old for me...

...of the label's many hits, I'd have to go for "Love Train" every time.

Lou Rawls - See You When i Get There and The O'Jays - Love Train

Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes-I miss you (full version)

" " " " - Be for real ( full version)

" " " " -Concentrate on me

Bunny Sigler-Keep smilin

Anthony White-I could never repay your love

So many classics: maybe too many to list exhaustively. I'll nail my colours to the mast and re-iterate a point I've made ad-nauseum on here that The O'Jays "I Love Music" is simply one of the greatest and most influential pieces of commercial black music ever made. Last year I was fortunate enough to acquire Tom Moulton's remix from 1979 and can't recommend it highly enough.

Mention elsewhere of the Anthony White album prompted me to dig out my copy and play the organ-drenched slowie "Love Grows Strong". It made me think that he didn't record enough out-and-out ballads in his career as on this he gives Teddy P, Eddie Levert (or Marvin Junior for that matter) a run for their money. The quasi-gospel breakdown and ad-libbing on the fadeout are truly beautiful.

Just about my fave label...i dont collect labels but if i did Phily int would be the one I`d collect...

All a matter of opinion but for me these are some of the best soul records ever...never mind the best on philly int.

Teddy Pendergrass- The more i get the more i want

Lou Rawls-You`ll never find

Jones girls-NIghts over Egypt

jean Carne-My love dont come easy

Really can't understand as to why they played Thelma AT Wigan but not Harold cos to me that was the best version! IMO!

The extended(12") of Don't leave me" is unbeatable the instrumental break is awesome, and the vocals, well say no more,

Remember the first time I heard Thelma at Wigan,I was a bit confused to say the least, but it's ok really,And yes I danced to it,On the second play about 45 minutes later,Maybe longer but my grey matter aint what it used to be,

Somebody mentioned The Jones Girls "Nights Over Egypt",I still play this in the car now a cool track

Massive question!! How about posing something a tad easier to answer like "how do we secure lasting peace in the middle east" :)

Reminds me of Wakefield CSC a few weeks back, managed to spin a "PIR classics" dominated set and enjoyed every minute!......

3 off the top of my list.....Jean Carn absolutely phenomenal....

My favourite PIR probably Billy Paul "Only The Strong Survive" but so much brilliant stuff on that particular label
