The Tempest Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I did'nt come onto the scene until the last year of Stafford , where the usual custom was if you went for a s++t in the bogs you'd have to cover it up as a p ++ s in case somebody asked you !!! I have met a lot of folks over the years and the conversation has been " Oh you're into northern soul , did you go to wigan " NO " Oh I did , sister , brother , cousin , cat , dog , budgie , blah , blah , blah ............ Even Mike Walker states half the bloody country turned up with the tv cameras !!! This is not a slate on the Casino and the path it paved . Lets face facts , this scene hides away from the tv cameras one minute and revels in a national radio / press / tv show the next , We are the victims of our own success and the days of an underground scene are well past it , lets remember the past with great memories and encourage the youth of today to carry it on , I have been to a lot of soul nights where it's all late 30's upwards , so what happens next ? So what if you can pick up Frank Wilson's Greatest Hit at Morrisons for £3.99 along with the shower gel in the 2 4 1 section !!! Enjoy it people and when you're bones are creaking and can't go on , I intend to open a residential care home on the east yorks coast for us all , called ........................................................................................ " Shoes " !!!
Guest in town Mikey Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Oh man how come some people say it shouldn't be for mainstream especially young people. in the 70's when it got popular a lot of the people who attended was in there teens and 20's getting into the music who have now grown up and got to know a little more about the music and so on. So that is the same as me who got into Northern soul in my early 20's so there for why can the oldies who was my age when getting into the scene tell me i am not welcome or shouldn't be hyprocritical the way forward is for like minded Northern soul fans to keep it going who will welcome younger people to get into it and keep it going especially if you are into it now like me. cause i for one will try and keep Northern soul going in say 30 years when i am what 58 in hope that people still want it. will be sad to imagine it's gone because of you older lot now Talking about taking a wild leap. Again. I have to ask. Where does wanting to keep the scene underground, mean we dont want anyone getting into soul? What possible reason could make you come up with such a ridiculous conclusion? Really. Stop applying YOUR prejudices, on to us, and putting nonsensical words into our mouths.
