I don't know whether AATS is the right place for this, but we'll start here and a mod can move it if they feel it's more appropriate elsewhere...

I have just received the distressing news that not just one but all of Mark Lamarr's Radio Two shows are about to be axed by the BBC in what I assume is a cost-cutting excercise.

Given that Mark is one of the best friends that specialist music has ever had, these actions are nothing short of disastrous.

And the fact that they can't find space of any kind for a man who really plays a bit of everything - and, more importantly, loves everything he plays - is truly criminal.

There's a petition going round to save Mark's "Shake, Rattle & Roll" show. Given that companies like Ace need all the Mark's we can get to promote our wares on the airwaves, I'm more than happy to post the following up here:

"Hello friend or stranger

You may be aware of the cancellation of Radio 2s Shake Rattle And Roll and of our campaign to rescue it. So far we've been collecting names on myspace with the eventual aim of a mass petition to Radio 2, and we need your help. If you have a database, do a mass mailout, run a blog or publication or have any other means of contacting the audience who may be disappointed by the loss of the show, please include an alert of the situation and/or a link to the myspace page. This is the first stage, as soon as we have a good amount of response there we'll get the petition in full swing and be in touch again, as we know not everyone necessarily wants to be involved in the murky world of social networking! In a month or so we'll issue a statement and an email address so that anyone else who wants their voice heard can simply leave their address, thereby joining the petition. It goes without saying, of course, that this database will be used only once then destroyed and you won't be receiving ads for Viagra and timeshares for the rest of your days. Thanks in advance, The Campaign To Save Shake Rattle And Roll.

All of the details of our grievance can be found here https://www.myspace.com/saveshakerattlenroll

...if you feel you want to lend your signature to this worthy cause (as I'm just about to) please let your conscience be your guide...

Thanks,

TONY

No, Jayne, she's got the show before "Sounds Of the 60s". That's not going, as far as I'm aware - I believe that it's the most popular 'satnd alone' show that R2 has...

Further to this, I've been told today by 'one who knows about such things' that SOTS gets around 4 million listeners, at least a million more than Jonathan Ross does. Perhaps they should give Ross the hour show and extend SOTS to three hours, then...

Me too!

Thank you for your e-mail regarding Mark Lamarr.

I was delighted to read that you are a fan of the Mark's and I understand you were unhappy at reports of Mark's programme being taken off air.

Recently a lot of changes have occurred at Radio 2, including shifting its schedule and moving presenters, however I'm currently unaware of any intentions to cancel Mark's programme. I've included the address of the most recent Press Office release for Radio 2 and as you'll be able to read Mark's timeslot remains unchanged at this time:

I appreciate that you would object to this programme being taken off air and so I can assure you that I've registered your comments on our audience log. ...wasn't sure whether to read it, or wipe my (...) with it :boxing:

This is just terriable and please if we can call get behined Mark Lammar in hope he can at least get 1 show back. Wasn't All Singing All Dancing All Night axed since there was no show at new year.

if all specialist shows was being axed it would be curtains for Bob Harris for sure.
