Just hang on a cotten-picking-minute,

how come this topic has been going for about 30 mins and

S.O.S has not had a mention?

Even though it's the epitome of northern soul :P

SOS / I Have Faith In You

Headline News is a close contender, and also like I Just Wanted To Cry, but the first record is my definitive desert island northern 45...

Not his actual best - think I'd probaly have to plump for "I have Faith In You" - but the UK-recorded "It Ain't Fair", which Edwin cut for Peter Stringfellow's Hippodrome label in the mid 80s, is certainly among his best-ever releases....

Too many to choose from but you're right there Tony about 'It Ain't Fair', a wonderful record with a lyric that some of us can even empathise!!

If I wanted to play an Edwin record for myself it will always be 'If My Heart Could Tell The Story'.

It's the sincerity that gets ya.

his cuts on the granite label seem to be a long way from his northern tracks but all are wonderful soul tracks. :boxing:

"Eavesdropper" is a particular fave for me on the Granite label.

"I Have Faith In You" from his sixties period - pure class !!

I bought this at the time of release, also got "soul singer" at same time. If I remember rightly a sort of biographical type song. :boxing:

But my first choice of best Edwin track would have to be.. I Have Faith In You, simply superb! yes.gif

Gonna Keep On Trying Till I Win Your Love

For once Mr Stubbs, I have to agree with you, look forward to hearing it at Capone's on July 11th thumbup.gif

If my heart could tell a story also a belter, Keep on trying just shades it for me.

Bearsy will also agree after his stay at the Welsh Embassy caravan at Cleethorpes, both will be aired the odd 12 times without doubt :(
