Guest Matt Male Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I'd like to see him with Steve Cropper, Donald Dunn and the rest of the Stax house band. Now that would be something.
Martint Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 saw him when he played the Barbican in London approx 3 years back with the MGs, he was absolutely awesome and played that mesmerising arrangement of Summertime (as recorded on one of his albums) which was pant wettingly brilliant..... there were other stax legends on the bill all doing the big "gotta gotta" memphis showman thing, but Booker T was far and away the best of the lot..... whether he plays old or new stuff I'm certain he'll be well worth seeing.
Guest Juddy Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 going to see booker t at cambridge folk festive (don't laugh more a piss up listing to people who can play and sing) but what is he doing now is it still hamond +mgs type stuff any u tube links or sound files of his new/up to date stuff? He's playing here, in Pittsburgh, next week - I just interviewed Booker T for the newspaper yesterday. What a cool, cool, guy. As laid-back and completely modest as they come. What he'll play at that Festival depends largely on his band. There are three basic current incarnations: The Booker T Band (which also might be listed just as 'Booker T'), Booker T and the Drive-By Truckers, and Booker T & the MGs. The first two are, believe it or not, pretty much straight-ahead ROCK bands. R&B and country and blues influenced, but definitely ROCK. Booker T and the MGs still play, and he said they're going back to a lot more of their early-60s stuff these days - back catalog, more than just the hits, kinda stuff. Which sounds pretty great to me. Now, don't get me wrong - as rock bands go, his sounds pretty great. The album's good, and apparently it's better live. But it's definitely rock music!! So, take that as you will. juddy in pittsburgh
