Hipcity Hipster Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Hi all, I had a pretty good weekend at Cleethorpes apart from some unknown assailant beating me up ! There must be someone out who knows their mate, friend of a mate who tried to punch 7 bells out of me. I'd just like to know why ? I know I can be an arrogant arse sometimes but I dont remember chatting up someones bird, spilling someones pint or treading on anyones foot on the dancefloor ! Maybe I sold one too many scratchy record ! I hope it was a case of mistaken identity or should I just keep watching my back from now on ! All the best Rob Messer

Guest Johnny One Trout Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 That's well out of order Rob Hope you weren't too badly hurt and the culprit is found and dealt with in an appropriate manner.

Guest Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Jeeks Rob, sorry to hear that mate, hope you're ok? Never thought, ever ! that there would be fisties on the Soul scene. Always found it very friendly and never intimidating. Had manys a beating whilst on the Mod scene years ago, but that was expected to some extent, sorta came as part n' parcel to expect kickings/chases from Skins or Greasers, but not on the Soul scene. Pretty disconcerting to hear of this mate. Prob some drunken arse , theres loads about, sorry to say, on the soul scene now. Never thought I'd see or hear of a punch up or digging at a Soul event. Bad news indeed. Still hope alls ok mate, put it down to experiance.
Mandy Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Was it a male or female Maybe they just didn't like your shirt Rob Arsehole whoever it was

Ady Croasdell Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 And let me know, he won't ever be at one of my promotions again. It was a particularly cowardly attack too. I think it's the first one in 13 events, excluding the domestic when a small girl layed into her bigger geezer, so we'll leave it at that.
Guest waynec Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 thats sad at a soul weekender. you wouldnt expect to get pissed locals out for trouble there. maybe you got a punchable face like mine. had it twice befor at soul nites. last time about 4/5 years ago a bloke twice my size decided to punch my teeth through my top lip for reasons known only to himself
Guest Dan Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Maybe you spilled someone's bird? link or chatted up someone's pint?

All the best Rob Messer link Hi Rob, Good to see you on Soul Source. That's a shocker and not the act of a friend  When you say 'beat you up' how severe was this, light scuffle, heavy blows? Were you badly hurt? Unacceptable this, last time I witnessed such unpleasantness was at the Plinston, but that was a couple of non soul fans that wouldn't leave the floor with their drinks. A dude such as yourself, shouldn't be on the receiving end of this kind of BS. Simsy

Mace Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 (edited) Just spoke to Rob, he's away for a few days so won't be able to reply on thread yet. He's okay, except for a few bruises and a black eye. Apparently this guy punched him in the eye as he was leaving the venue at 7.55 a.m. on the Sunday morning, then rained a few blows on him, and gave him a bit of a kicking when he was down, before being hauled off by the bouncers and then dissappearing. There was only a few people left in the venue by this time in the morning, so no-one recognised him. I remember having a good hiding in Great Yarmouth Mod Rally many years ago by a bunch of locals...guess who I was walking along with at the time.....yep..Rob Messer......he ain't a lucky charm at the best of times At one point I lifted my head up during a good kicking off a group of local morons, to see 4 lads holding Rob mid air by each arm and leg, trying to swing him head first into a wall.....funny thinking about it now, but not so at the time... As for the Jesse Davis cover up - was this the one Des Parker was spinning a few months back....if so, I know what it is.... Edited June 14, 2005 by Mace

Guest Stuart T Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 As for the Jesse Davis cover up - was this the one Des Parker was spinning a few months back....if so, I know what it is.... link I wonder if it is the same as the one that Greg McAllinney and I played a couple of years back - Paul McNamara provided it to us covered up as Jesse Davis and I think Greg provided it to Des on a tape. If so I know what it is too. It has a very long intro before the tune kicks off and a sort of hammering sound in the background (Greg's description not mine). May give this an airing at Solid Hit Soul this Saturday. Would do an MP3 to find out if its the same but this Amstrad doesn't do them according to Pete Smith.

Guest Stuart T Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 The one I'm thinking of is an album track, first name begins with a B....does that match up? link Off an LP, not a US issue, can't remember the artist off the top of my head, sounds like it'll be the same one though.
Guest Stuart T Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Give me 20 minutes and I'll post it up link But I won't be able to play it
Ady Croasdell Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Kenny's on about what a great job Jim Gilstrap & the New Belles did on Jesse Davis 'Hang On In There' as written by Sherlie. The other geezer who thought he was threatened could have been the knobhead from Hinckley who'd seriously overdone it and thought there were thirty people in the modern room with bottles after him, then forty in the main room. So he stood at the entrance inbetween. Then he brought the cops down who luckily realised he was mental. He won't be coming again!
Guest Stuart T Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Give me 20 minutes and I'll post it up link Thanks, thats the one, shame we were talking about completely the wrong record delighted to discover that the Amstrad could play that but should there be smoke coming out the back?

Guest Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Heard murmerings about this at the Sunday afternoon session - what a pity that a moron (and coward) like this can behave like that. Obviously got no idea of the basic concepts of the scene whoever he is. Hope Rob is OK. Neil Jones

Rob Wigley Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Hope you are ok rob-----I saw someone being carted off in a police car about 6 ish sunday morning from outside the chip shop...two police women had him in the back of the car i'm sure he was handcuffed---maybe the setting for a porn film ??? You ate too many of those frosties on that ad by the way or maybe it was someone you cracked up when you dressed as THE MASK a few years back !!! sounds like you should drop the acting and do the STUNTMAN thing instead ! Guest Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 One punch, a slightly swollen eye (thats not to say it might have gone black afterwards) The guy who did it has been seen about before, and if he is spotted again im sure someone will ask him why or to contact Rob direct to tell him. anyone going up to this bloke and returning a punch will be just as bad as he was in the first place IMO Soulfull happy slapping
Rob Wigley Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Ady if you get a name and address or town let me know and we'll exclude him from Hemsby/ Prestatyn if he's booked. Unless rob wants to be revengeful !!! Rob Wigley

Ady Croasdell Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 Just had a though, he was def. taken away, must have released him in time to get the straglers coming out in the morning and he was with another bloke when the police drove off (who stayed at the centre). some one must know them ! link No you're arse over tit. There were two totally separate incidents with different people. The smashed geezer went into Cleethorpes, told the cops everyone was trying to beat him up. When they got there they realised he was nuts and left him there. The punch happened two hours later by a completely different person
Guest Andy BB Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I'd like to point out that I was threatened too, and in a very scary manner. There I was off my face and happily shouting out bingo numbers to a completely disinterested 500 or so people (excluding Jet, Jenny and the Bingo Crew natch), when a 'well known face' on the scene approached me and snarled menacingly in my ear "For God's sake F*&K off man!" Well, naturally I let it go then but it's stored in the old memory banks... You'll get yours Croasdell!
