Without a doubt

Trouble Man

I come up hard, baby

But now I'm cool

I didn't make it, sugar

Playin' by the rules

I come up hard, baby

But now I'm fine

I'm checkin' trouble, sugar

Movin' down the line

I come up hard, baby

But that's okay, cause

Trouble man

Don't get in the way

I come up hard, baby

I'm in for real, baby

Gonna keep movin'

Gonna go to town

I come up hard

I come up, gettin' down

There's only three things

That's for sho'

Taxes, death and trouble, h'oh!

This I know, man, is

This I know, sugar

Girl, ain't gon' let it sweat me, baby

Got me singin'

Yeah! Yea-aah!

Hoo-ooo-ooo

Come up hard, baby

I had to fight

Took care of my bid'ness

Wit' all my might

I come up hard, awful hard

I had to win

Then start all over

And win again

I come up hard

But that's okay, 'cause

Trouble man

Don't get in my way

Hey, hey!

I know some places

And I see some faces

I've got the connections

I dig my directions

What people say, that's okay

They don't bother me, oh yeah

I'm ready to make it

Don't care what the weather

Don't care 'bout no trouble

Got myself together

I feel the kind of protection

That's all around me

I come up hard, baby

I be for real, baby

With a trouble minds

Movin', goin' to town

I come up hard

I come up, gettin' down

There's only three things fo' sho'

Taxes, death and trouble

Ooh, this I've known, baby, ooo!

This I've known, baby

Ain't gon' let it sweat me, baby

Woo!

'I'm on the ground, yeah, yeah!'

Woo, I come up hard

But now I've cooled

I didn't make it, baby

Playin' by the rules

Come up hard, baby

Now, I'm fine, I've

Checkin' trouble, sugar

Hey, movin' down the line

FADES:

Oooh.

marching on together

How Sweet It Is

This could easily be the best single ever made.

What's Going On

This is (almost certainly) the best album ever made - if Curtis had produced it, just imagine how good that would be ....

Impossible to pick his best the man made so many great records probably the most consistent and loved artist of all time but these two always crack me up It's madness + Thats enough . Both touched with genius .

How hard is this?? He's right up there at the top of my list and my favourite tracks would change with my moods but if pushed it would be:-

When I Feel the Need

Let's Get it On

If This World Were Mine

On the other hand....................................??????????

And is there any truth in the rumour

that he once disappeared for years

and was living in Ostend in Belguim??

Yes, totally true.

Programme on BBC4 on Saturday night at 10.45 - 'What's Going On: the Life and Death of Marvin Gaye' - one to set the recorder for.

As far as his best song - impossible question, so many class tunes to choose from I single one out.

Favourite albums - without a doubt the whole of 'What's Going On' and 'Trouble Man'. The latter was a huge departure from his previous material and is my favourite music for driving.

There are too many but for me ....

It's A Desperate Situation .. from the Love Starved Heart 'Lost & Found' CD .. the epitome of a man in pain.. and Ivy Jo's unreleased demo version is as good

Was It A Dream .. his duet with Oma Heard

Bitter Pill To Swallow .. from the MPG album

.. we could go on and on

This love starved heart(is killing me).

Bernard.

It is of interest to note that the original version of 'This love starved heart of mine (it's killing me)' was actually recorded in Los Angeles by Al Wilson.

The writers, Helen & Kay Lewis, cut the track on Al in the hope that it would secure him a deal at Motown. Obviouslty that was never to be.

Helen was completely unaware that Marvin had recorded the track until i discussed it with her many years later

The 'released' version by Jimmy Ruffin is also a goodie!

Marvin Gaye did live for a time in Belgium,As mentioned in a posting above,

As for my fave track by Mr Gaye,

I offer you this little ditty, cant believe it's not been mentioned before it's pure class, and to myself a true Northern Soul / Motown classic, also released by Georgie Fame I think,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

For your entertainment and orgasmic pleasure,

Mr Marvin Gaye
