Casper Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 badges / patches are now ..and always wil be a part of northern soul....they are worth whatever people want to pay for them .. whats wrong with that ?... they are even more valuable if you have been to the venues you own the patches for, they are however collectable to many who havent since they are nice to have i suppose ... pete n' susan KTF
macca Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Mine are tucked into a little white envelope inside the draw of my PC desk, along with all my membership cards. Strangely enough, records have come and gone over the years but I could never bring myself to part with the contents of that little envelope. Someone gave me a pair of lapel badges a while back. One of the Palmer label, the other Gordy. In 1976 I made my own little silver and black TMG badge by cutting out the logo from an LP jacket and mounting it on a piece of cardboard with a safety pin and sellotaped to the back. A lot of us did that. It was a very adolescent thing, rather like rock fans wearing USAF wings & peace signs. It identified you as a member of the tribe. Like baggy trousers, they also had a limited shelf life. How many people were wearing them by 1980? Only the Spencers clad diehards as I remember. So apart from the aesthetical question, I'd just feel like mutton dressed as lamb and tremendously self-conscious if I wore that stuff today. But each to his own of course.
dthedrug Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I WOULD LOVE MY ORIGANAL VAVA BADGE BACK, AS IT FADED AWAY IN THE WASH, IF ANY ONE IS SELLING BADGES? DAVE KIL

The badges on the link are ours. Well to be honest, they were Sean's mum's. We've had loads of people asking about these. They are all genuine, Karen had them since she was out and about in the 70's. Souledtrafford Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 does any one know if theres any label patches ever been made without legends of soul plastered all over them im desperate for some? Hi, There was someone on the internet a while back - www.soulelite.co.uk who would make you a patch of any record label you wanted. They weren't embroidered, but were good. I think you just sent him a scan of what you wanted. They weren't expensive either. NEWKID
Ian Parker Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Debbie - My patches mean alot to me, some of them are from the venues i have been to & enjoyed great nights that i will always want to remember The others belong to a very dear friend, who went to Soul nights round the Uk in the 70s & 80s & who is no longer with me, he left me the patches to put on my own bags
Guest stash313 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Earlier this year I put the first part of a large collection of patches up for sale and have just finished listing the rest - https://shop.ebay.co.uk/livesey00/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340 some rare and not so rare pieces in there. If anyone's interested take a look.
Guest manusf3a Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) Never owned one,the smart ones in my book were the ones Terry mentions ,there was people from round Corby as like wellingborough wearing the torch badges on Barathea blazer pockets(I remember Wilky did along with John Boyd and others) as he said with skinners and the original solatio basketweave shoes.Didnt have the badge but they were the type clothes I stood up in crown court at just turned fifteen and got swagged off to borstal.I really loved that look, they were quite used to it I expect in northants ,beds but when I got to thee wormwood scrubs borstal allocation centre, London the "screws were nearly pissing themselves about the baggyness of the jeans. The twenty two inch parallels around that time were also great with a blazer .You would see a fair few folk in the north park kettering with the badge on the blazer before I went on an extended "holiday",when I got out there was badges everywhere and mens trouser waistbands had started to extend upwards in what looked like an attempt to reach the nipples.Thankfully other options also became available for what to wear.
