John Reed Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 (edited) Instumentals being classed as soul has never really sat with me very well, but as part of a dance or overall genre they can be great. I've always loved Scrub-Board by the Trammps. Not northern, but I don't think you can get better than Fred Wesley & The JB's - Blow You Head Edited May 22, 2009 by John Reed

John Al Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 (edited) Bank holiday weekends upon us, so spare a bit time to let us know your.......... 1. favorite instrumentals 2. and, do you think they are as popular as they used to be? alan Love instrumentals and will always play one or two when DJing (any more than that can get stale). Many favourites over the years but two that I'm currently playing are: Matta Baby - Do The Pearl Girl Subway Riders - After The Session Are they as popular as they used to be? No. John. Soft Walker Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I don't generally like to hear instrumental versions of a good vocal record - one that really springs to mind is the instrumental version of Mickey Lee Lane - He Sha Lo Ney. I do like good instrumentals in their own right though & 2 of my favourites are- Green Onions - Booker T & The MGs - been a favourite of mine for about 25 years & still gives me a tingle when I hear it Detroit City Limits - 98 cents plus tax - pure, seemingly effortless, quality

Epic Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Try it by only including "proper" instrumentals - ie not backing tracks. Zola - King Errison Rhona's Theme - RPM Generation Soul Improvisations - Van McCoy (Full length album mix of course !!) Hold On Help Is On The Way - G Davis & R Tyler Lost Time - Popcorn Wylie Yeah You're Right............ - The Gaturs Midnight Brew - Melvin Carter Afternoon Of The Rhino - Mike Post Coalition
