Over the years I have bought more records blind than I have knowing what they are. The constant search for something new leads most vinyl fanatics to chance their arm from time to time with a title that looks like it might just be something. For every great northern record that I have discovered (George Blackwell) I have ended up with hundreds of "Ok wheeler the used car dealer" types. The thrill of putting on an unknown record not knowing if it is going to be a classic or a lemon is one of lifes little pleasures. I bought about 15000 unlisted 45`s from a dispersal sale in Detroit last year and waiting for the shipment to arrive and tearing open the first few boxes was great fun. It cost me more to ship them than I had to pay for the vinyl but one record out of the whole lot was worth considerably more than I paid for the whole consignment. Buying blind, you just gotta try it you know it makes sense !!!

Johnny Hendley - it was a bit beat up, cost a bit more than I really wanted to pay (£26) - but it worked out all right in the end!

Loads. That was half the fun when records were cheap enough that you could take some chances. Best period was the early 70's when you could buy 20 U.S. cut-out 45's for a quid or get Soul Packs for a similar price! Some I have bought blind include Willie Hutch "The Duck"/"Love Runs Out", Lenny Curtis "Nothing Can Help You Now", Al DeLory "Right On", The Pointer Sisters "Send Him Back", Ronnie & Robyn "As Long As You Love Me (I'll Stay)", Si Hightower "I Know You're Leaving Me", Clyde McPhatter album with "Please Give Me One More Chance" etc, etc....

Bought a copy of Bobby Wilburn "I'm A Dreamer/I'm A Lonely Man" on a Gamble issue totally blind many years ago from a little arcade in Melton Mowbray for the princely sum of £3.

Didn't even like it much when I played it at home! Love it now though.

Unfortunately I come back from every record show with a handful of things bought blind. In fact most of the dealers hold onto boxes of stuff for me and if they want $1 or $2 I will take them.

Recently I bought a 4 track 45 with 2 songs on 1 side by The Professor? and 2 on the other side by Lotsa Poppa? Label is Lotta Soul, anybody know it? The songs are all Southern Soul type tunes but not bad.

I end up with a lot of Psych and Garage things but some of these sell for good money although I do have 3 boxes of crap (mainly Country) that will be sold to a guy who repairs and sells jukeboxes.
