Comes up occasionally Frankie and the Classicals "What shall I do" on Philips consistently fetches £200-£300.

Holidays.. Making up time on Polydor..

Inspirations a tougher one, but both hard on this label, along with Paradox .. Ring the changes..

Holidays is actually relatively easy to pick up because for some reason no one seems to want it. Paid £50 for one in April. Bobby Paris is quite hard to find on Polydor. Inspirations is on really flexible vinyl if I remember correctly.

Never seen that Venus label, anything else on it? Presumably that's the same Alan Martin on Rio...

Personally I prefer the Sensations version of 'Loser' on Doctor Bird, but the Harriott's a good 'un too.

Where's that Ray Barretto from? That's never British on Pink Elephant, surely?

The Sensations song is a totally different one to the Derrick Harriott one! No connection apart from the title.

Venus is another Rio label, Alan Martin is actually Denzil Dennis, it's a good UK soul production which I sold as a cover up last year, there is a sound file up. I think there are only 5 releases on the Venus label, Owen Gray and Laurel Aitken included.

My "Blue Elephants" have all come from Holland.... maybe it was a "BeNeLux" release.

Just remember Dance Cleopatra being on Belgian Pink Elephant, and I bought this one as being on Belgian, though you're probably right as there's no country listed on the label.

Yes, I think you're correct. Regarding the Inspirations that is.

Sensations is a cover of Bobby Lee on Sue, I think the Harriott is 'based on' the Bobby Lee, chorus is the same for one thing, tune's pretty similar... play them both again and you'll see what I mean!

Here's a few more to chat about.......................

Dee Dee Sharp - It's a funny situation (Cameo Parkway)

Fork in the road - I can't turn around (Ember)

Mr Flood's Party - Compared to what (Ember White Test Press) Mick Smith only ever seen two !

Lou Johnson - Unsatisfied (Demo Mis-press on MONUMENT label) I think this is the title - again Mick only seen a handful.

Undisputed Truth - Save my love for a rainy day (Demo Mis-press on PARLOPHONE label) I had this once and have seen one or two more.

Kelly Brothers - Crying days are over (Sue) Would kill for one of these ! Popsike shows a couple or so NOT REALLY sure just how rare this is. It has always been desired - especially by me !

Chairmen of the board - Give me just a little more time (INV 501 DEMO) Never ever seen or heard of this on demo. Ran a thread on S/S about this and nobody answered! INV502 Band of gold DEMO does exist.

Frankie Valli - The Night (Mowest MW5002 DEMO) again as above. White test press with info sheet only I have seen.

Barbara Mills - Queen of fools (Hickory ISSUE)

Darrell Banks - Open the door etc (London Demo - hand written credits like Ben E King)

There is a difference between outright rarity and just desirability - always good to mention this eg Darrell Banks on London demo. Over the years have seen so many of these and yes always sells and is ultra desirable - not a real rarity IMHO

Most major UK labels sent a few hundred or so demo's out - didn't they ?

Cheers.................. Tom. Banbury.

1 not rare, just expensive

2 doesn't exist

3 it;s a test pressing which to be honest anyone could make if they just removed the label!

Cajun Hart issue is way harder than the demo though

Pete

So is the Tony Colton issue I believe ?

What's your oppinion with the 2 Ray Pollard issues vs demos ?

And I have never heard or seen of a Chapter Five - one in a million issue either ?

Questions......Questions... :D

Interesting thread, must admit I used to drool over some British collections years ago. Most or all of you guys into British will most likely know it but for those that don't know this is an interesting site for British releases, some discs with scans, some not.

Search by Label, Artist, Title etc

I think the thing with Darrell Banks is that it is so desirable , the demand far outways the amount of copies out there .Think Neil Rushton had either a hand written or type written Darrell Banks , def. saw it when I bought some UK things off him in the late 70's. Best,Eddie

SOME OF THE PINK ELEPHANT RELEASES ALSO CAME OUT IN GREECE WITH SOLID CENTERS MAKING THEM LOOK LIKE UK COPIES

Tony Colton, probably, just slightly

Ray Pollard is a weird one because when I was trying to sella Drifter demo nobody wanted it, it was bizarre, now I can't find one.

I would say Drifter issue is commoner than demo, and sad thing issue is harder than the demo.

There are no issues of One In A Million, I think he said they pulled it after the management heard there was a version coming out by Karol Keyes.

what about edwin starr stop her on sight polydor demo

carolyn crawford when some ones good to you stateside demo

The Edwin Starr is one of the top 10 UK rarities on demo I'd say.

The Carolyn Crawford isn't - just the same as any other Stateside demo.

It's a different vocal as well Mick if you listen to them, first time I played it I realised it was different.

Really Pete, I remember back in year dot I had them both and only noticed the extra length, but I was young then.

At the moment, I still have a demo left, but not an issue, so I can't compare. Will have to listen.

NB - The Jon Ford Demo became slightly rarer in 2007 when a copy I bought turned up smashed by the Post Office !!!

Oh, I remember that one - I think you would have paid less than I sold it for though.

Crazy thing that record - Just like busses ...

First Demo copy I had was Nev Wherry's , which ended up in the hands of Tony Clayton in the early eighties.

Then nothing for 25 or more years ... until 2007 when FOUR DEMO copies went through my hands.

1 - Bought from Mick Smith (eBay) - copy destoyed by Post Office.

2 - After Mick claimed (unsuccesfully, even though it was Spec Del) he sent me his own copy.

3 - Private sale from Birmingham (only vg) - but under a ton.

4 - Another off eBay - this must be the one you have now.

There was another on eBay at the time of Number 1 above, but I think this became Number 4.

I've still got Number 2

Anyone got a soundclip of a blue stock - would like to hear the differences.

Cheers

Mick

I collect UK amongst other things. Have all the "big" stuff but not "pop" items

However the two I personally struggled to pick up were relative cheapies.

American Youth Choir Keep Your Fine Self Near Me" Polydor

Mike Williams Lonely Soldier (red) Atlantic

This should be an interesting thread I will give it more thought at home.

Mr Smith will be joining in Im sure,

Regards

:boxing: Hi all

sadly my most valued piece of WIGAN memorabilia was a slice of birthday cake from the 1st anniversary All niter, had it for years until I left the North Herts and moved to Wolves this is true and will be verified by any one who attended the CASINO that night, it was on the right hand side of the lower bar is that a rare one? DAVE KIL
