Intrigues "in A Moment"

Looking at the rather nice demo on JM's auction, it has the London American "scroll" script at the top. Now I've only ever known the boxed logo on issues, and I thought I bought mine on first issue. Does a "scroll" issue exist, or were they using up old style blanks on demos at that time?

I assume they had stock of old-style promo label backgrounds to use up in late 1969 / early 1970 because the same happened with others such as "Gotta Find A New World" / "You Say It" by Al Green. The issues had the rectangular boxed logo but the promo copies used the old-style yellow design with the unboxed logo.

Soon after that, most promo copies were similar to issue copies (black background) but by mid 1972 they were mostly using those nice red promo labels.

In those days almost all record companies held very large stocks of background labels to be overprinted with various titles and credits as required.

Even very small companies tended to print 10,000 or 20,000 background labels. After that, overprinting was quick and cheap.

I'll have to dig it out but I think I've seen issues of The Intrigues in both styles.

That may well be very true.

I am looking at my issue and that's a boxed London, whilst the Demo on Popsike is a scrolled London.

Pretty sure the demo of re-issue of "In-crowd" is also on scrolled.

Sorry if I confused you Rod, I think most people refer to them as "silver top" issues...I think I know what I mean anyway!

As regards when the boxed logo came in, probably late 67 or early 68 ish? Certainly remember buying Jerry O "Karate Boogaloo" with the boxed logo as a new release from HMV in Londons Oxford Street, along with Fifth Dimension "Train keep on moving"

I know that a man of your standing will be aware , but "Piece of my heart" was reissued with the boxed logo in the 70's - with red demos as well!

I used to know what the last silver top was but I can't remember now, it would have been early 67 though I think, the yellow demos continued til 69 or 70, I did write all this up somewhere but the old brain cells have deteriorated. 10121 Earl harrison is a definite silver top but 10127 Brenda & Tabs is a box logo I think.

the silver tops were phased out around may 1967 but london kept the same design for demos until the end of 1970. the intrigues in a moment was issued in late 1969 and sadly doesn`t exist on a london silver top in the uk. silver tops were used on irish pressings til 1973 so it could exist on that.

Silver-tops, yellow, orange and red demos...how about a pretty blue one...nice!

The Turtles "she'd rather be with me" HLU 10135 came out on boxed. There is a scan of HLU 10135 Silver Top on 45cat but it does not say Made in England.

HLU 10134 is silver top with made in England on the label. It is the Ragamuffins Four days of rain. Released 12th May 1967. I think this is the last Silver top made in England.

As an aside, one of the first records I ever bought - just snuck in before it was deleted.  Can't help feeling this would be the biggest crossover record of all time, if it hadn't been so well known.  What a tune! Reckon my copy would sound even better if it was on a scroll top demo.  Yummy!

I remember it got played quite a lot at Wigan Casino.   Maybe Dave Evison? 

Great record, as you probably know, it came out on Bullet in the States before Yew.
