Soulsmith Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Sad to see only 1 All Dayer on Today (BH Monday) and its more of a mod do than strictly northern. Strange that as we've aged all nighters remain reasonably strong but all dayers seem to be few & far between. When was the last truly great all dayer?

The last truly great all-dayer was held about three years ago in Sleaford, Lincs Col. It was arranged through this site in aid of the "Gambian Soul Club" Quality music from the late 50's to present day. No celebrity DJ's, but nevertheless well attended and a few quid raised for a good cause, and that was before the charity business became popular.

Soulsmith Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 Reading in the late 70s. Col, those were great alldayers Certainly were a bit special. More recently done Chi Soul - a modern type thingy in Chichester which I thought would die on its arse, but was rammed. Quality atmosphere. Then few years back a do somewhere near the south coast (to be precise - middle of nowhere) a do orgainised by Steve C, Russ, Jason & others. Again packed & a brilliant day/night. I remain confused as to why the all dayer is no longer a regular, viable format?

Guest gordon russell Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 What year mon ami? can't remember years mate all to blurry lol........early to mid 70's
Guest KEN-SOUL Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I remember attending 2 all-dayers at our beloved Clouds in Edinburgh in the late 70's. Was there any more than this? i can't remember... Edinburgh must hold the record for all-dayers. I can remember attending many, in various quarters of the city. I dont know why, but the record which comes to mind from those day's was "music with soul"... it was big back then... who sang it again?
Stevie Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Last truly great all dayer I attended would have been Whitchurch or the Ritz circa '74 - '75. Don't think I've been to any since. Went to a Soul Night at Whitchurch about ten years ago and couldn't believe that it was the same venue. I seem to recall it being massive when the dayers were on but it was in fact much smaller than I remembered. Happy days

Happy days I remember Whitchurch all - dayers in the early 70s with in the region of 3,000 attending and the dance competition taking place on the massive stage, if i remember right they took place on the bank holiday Monday from 12 till midnight. Great memories. Kev Edited May 9, 2009 by southandnorth

Hi Jayne, don't talk about the Savoy all-dayer when Lou is around. Mark Bicknell throw up in her handbag. Derak Watmore's coat got it as well.
