Kenny Smith - Lord What's Happening To Your People - GAR....this is my all time fave.

KTF

Baz

OK - I'm bored of these "I can't pick a top ten" comments - blah, blah, blah

Please just choose your all time ever (and forever) top 1 (that's ONE) record.

No evasion, obfuscation, procrastination, or indecisiveness please.

ONE TOP RECORD EACH AND THAT'S IT - ONE VISIT ONLY PLEASE, SO GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!

OK mine is:

Jackey Beavers - Love That Never Grows Old (Revilot)

Cheers

Richard

Always thought this one was a bit underated as it has a great feel to it - although I think it could do without the tommy gun bit in the lyrics.

Cheers Manus

"we're so close, you couldn't part us with a tommy gun" Classic

it was rough round where he lived you know

NON SOUL WOULD HAVE TO BE

MANFRED MAN "SEMI DETACHED SUBURBAN MR JAMES"

SOUL WOULD BE

LEE JONES "THIS HEART IS HAUNTED" ON AMY. GOOSE BUMP TIME EVERY TIME I PLAY IT!

NORTHERN IS HARDER BUT WOULD HAVE TO SAY

INSPIRATIONS "NO ONE ELSE CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE" ON BREAKTHROUGH

ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF RICHARD AT FRI NIGHT OLDIES SESSION AT T'CASINO.

HOPE THIS ISN'T CHEATING BY THE ABOVE!!

One record that encompasses everything that's great about this thing of ours...

I'm Gone - Eddie Parker

"my top record ever "changes all the time but my bf (not a soulie) loves this lately and often sings it, "if you think that your the big wheel ill show you what daddy can do" ,perhaps incorrectly?. hearing it again from his perspective has made it, for probably the 100th time , my favourite again. like sweeny i think it "encompasses everything thats great" i particulally love the lyrics and eddie parkers lyrical inflections  . im not really a fan of the down tempo string laden sounds and prefer the powerhouse stuff like this .

and lastly this is NOT RnB lol  . soul at its greatest

Too Much Pain - Eugene Evans on King.

Cos it's pure stripped down raw Soul music dripping with more angst than you could shake a stick at. Reputably backed by the JB's themselves and the quality of horn and bass gives us no reason suppose otherwise. Vocal intensity turned right up to 10 and a tune that just builds and builds. I have never been able to listened to this just once. 'Kin love it.

Hi Craig

This is on King subsidiary Hollywood as opposed to the main label. Got to be a strong contender for the greatest deep soul record ever made. Does anyone have a copy for sale?

well it could be,the platters, washed ashore,(on a lonely island in the sea), :g::ohmy::P

or the van-dykes,no man is an island, both in keeping with the desert island thingy, :D:rolleyes:

but my real choice would have to be this motown lp track only, its pure class,:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Said it before so I'll say it again pretty close to perfection Northern wise has to be George Blackwell - Can't Lose My Head - Smoke, has it all for me, perfect backbeat, stunning lead vocal as he sings from his boots, timeless classic, rare and pretty much sums up what quality rare soul is all about, of course there are many more up there with this but for me GB shades it everytime.

Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Marcell Strong and the Triad on Emerge a simply mindblowing piece of southern soul which i find hard to better it just levels me every time.

non soul wise would have to be little wing- jimmy hendrix although some would argue that hendrix touches the soul.

Gonna tell the truth here and probably lose my cred, but if l could only have

one record with me then it would be the one that was the biggest when l

first went to Wigan and the one l took the morning off work to go and buy when

it got released, when things were more simple and innocent and l was 16 and the

world was my oyster......

Goodbye Nothin' To Say- Nosmo King And The Javells

:D:)

Have to say I think that's a pretty cool reason!

Bloody hell that was brave (although I have to admit to having a soft spot for it myself).

Admitting that on here must surely be as tough as standing in your lounge at home as a misunderstood teenager, looking your mum and dad straight in the eye and saying "Mum, Dad, I've got something to tell you".
