Southern_soul1
Hi there, to clarify a dispute regarding a purchase of this I made, can anyone please confirm that the vinyl 'repro' has the ARCHER slightly staggered in the run out and is smaller than on the original ARCHER ?? I bought one that was advertised as the original and this is what I was sent and the seller won't have it that this is the 'repro'... Thanks for your time soulies.... Marc Forrest
as i thought..smaller ARCHER = repro...... cheers blunny Glad this came up...as somebody was doubting the originality of said record recently. It may also be useful to add that the ARCHER stamp on the counterfeits stamped is not 100 % in order which means some letters are placed lower or higher than the others whereas on the original the whole stamp is like one and every letter is placed 100 % accurate. Soulboy69
Staggered 'Archer' stamp is definately a Re-press and that was confirmed to me by John Manship himself only recently after i queried the fact that he sold me a copy as an 'original' many years ago. Premium Stuff
Staggered 'Archer' stamp is definately a Re-press and that was confirmed to me by John Manship himself only recently after i queried the fact that he sold me a copy as an 'original' many years ago. That is the exact point here. Previously small staggered ARCHER stamped copies were widely considered to be legit and consequently were bought and sold freely as such. Therefore, someone who bought a small ARCHER stamped copy as an original will sell it as an original unless they have access to this up-to-date information. Can't really blame them for that. If in a dispute situation over this, I think tact and understanding, alongside providing the authoritative up-to-date information, will be big factors in resolving things. The seller ain`t on here as you know and said copy is having the big stamp. It is not having the staggered stamp. Marc Link to comment Social source share
Peter Richer
OK, well there is a different view. I recently (within the last 12 months) had a conversation with a respected, very knowledgeable and trusted record dealer who says that they are definitely not 1970s re-presses, and that they are originals. He bases this on the facts of where he has found them in the USA, who he bought them from, and that they were all mixed in together with copies of the larger ARCHER stamped disks. Albeit there were fewer of the larger stamped versions. Yes, there must have been different plates in order to press the disks with different matrix marks, but this is also true with other confirmed originals such as Gwen Owens - Just Say You're Wanted. There can be first run originals and second run originals. Also, in Tim Brown's guide, he does not list the smaller stamped disks as bootlegs, and has a selling price of £50. (Tim is not the same dealer as the one referred to above). John Manship is normally very accurate in these matters, and he has made a comprehensive and valuable study of bootlegs for reference, but there are still some items where there is an element of doubt, and this may well be one of them. Southern_soul1
it seems strange that between germany and the uk the ARCHER has become staggered just like in the previous scans..... Link to comment Social source share
Marc Forrest
...yes, very strange indeed. Nearly as strange as how a 45 that was not having a staggered stamp in Berlin all of a sudden has a staggered one after arriving in Britain after having been only two days in the post. Seriously Simon and as stated via pm: Please discuss this with the seller. I will try to talk with him as well. But I really don`t want to get involved in this matter any further. Thank you. Southern_soul1
well marc if you want to discuss here....tell 'your friend' to reply to my emails then with an address to send it back to for a full refund and also tell german postmen not to be so thorough and deliver records so soon....i have done nothing wrong here.....i order a record which you tell me is an original, when i clearly ask if this is the large ARCHER when it has not and i send money promptly and i get the record delivered quickly (my mistake too obviously) and get a repro.....i must be in the wrong here then!!?? ahhhhh NO!
