Guest
OK, here it is again, and now at a lower price! I think this is a pretty good record, and one that has not been played out by DJ's that much either. Many will know it but I suspect many others will not, therefore I provide a soundfile! I have been looking out for this record since about 2000, since then I can only recall seeing it twice, apart from the copy I got. Once a couple of years or so ago when Shifty had it on his auction with a minimum bid of £225 and once on ebay maybe a year or slightly less ago and that went for around $450 as I recall it. In theory it should perhaps be more common, but it seems that in reality it ain't for some reason. Otis Brown & The Delights - Southside Chicago - Ol M- small w.o.l. £200 (was £250) Paypal, cash or IBAN transfer accepted on this record. Guest
Possibly, but it is much more of a dancefloor tune to my ears than some of the tripe that has been getting spins in recent years, or indeed most beat ballads I can think of, but that's just me I guess. It has been getting some spins in the UK over the last ten years or so maybe by some of the more progressive and quality conscious DJ's. It got a whopping amount of downloads if nothing else. Guest
No I haven't sold it yet. It seems most people don't want underplayed soulful records you can dance to that are not around by the containerload, and that are not played and owned by everyone and his dog. There is no shortage of good danceable 60's soul tunes that have not been played much on the scene, problem is not many people want to buy them or hear them, despite claims to the contrary. If no one buys it, I will keep it and sell it via another medium, and most likely get more for it. Just thought I'd give people on here a chance first since I prefer a quick sale. I'm always on the look-out for something different, but my financial restraints dictate I cannot spend £200 - £250 on a record at this given moment. It's about timing sometimes. Maybe if I'd just been paid and the attraction to it was instant, my comments would have been different. If, however, you were selling a copy of El Anthony on LA Cindy for £100 - £150 I would quite happily go rob the old lady next door and steal her biscuit tin where she keeps her money for the bills so I could have that record. My attraction to that record was instant, and I will have a copy. I prioritise the records that I buy. El Anthony is No 1 at the moment. Poor old Otis is a bit further down the pecking order, and at potentially £50-£100 cheaper, that ain't gonna change Jamie Edited June 4, 2005 by Jamie Link to comment Social source share

Guest
Did you not listen to the Tommorrow's Men I put up? SAME backing as El Anthony, but different lyrics and far superior male group vocals! Much less known too. I bet £10.000.000 that if these tracks were something unissued unearthed by Kent you would all stand in line to shower praise on them and rave about them, or if they were played (and thus approved) by one of the scenes 'father figures'. I also bet another zillion that if I had offered, say Joseph Webster, on here 4 years ago at £400, no one would have been bothered! This is how the scene and people work I'm afraid. I'm a big boy now and can make my own decisions. Half the records I play are under £50. OK, some of that is to do with my financial situation, OK a lot of it , and I don't feel any pressure to change that. All I do is scour for the the unknown and the underplayed. I do that because I enjoy it. The fundamentals here Christian, with all due respect, is that I don't like the record enough to shell out £200 for it. Especially when I consider there to be thousands of other cheaper alternatives, as you've already kindly pointed out for me The fact that over 200 people have downloaded it and it is still for sale tells its own story, or am I wrong? Don't take it personally Christian, but you're practically calling 'most people' sheep because they won't buy your rare Detroit record. Read your posts again and have a think about it, see if you can spot how it comes across. I'm now going to apologise to you because I'm going to a BBQ now and won't be able to reply to your eloquent response until tomorrow. Guest
Yeah I heard it, but I heard El Anthony first and that's the one that I want *That's OK, people have different preferences, nothing wrong with that, usually. You are stereotyping me Christian. I'm a big boy now and can make my own decisions. *I wasn't really, sorry if you took it that way. Half the records I play are under £50. OK, some of that is to do with my financial situation, OK a lot of it , and I don't feel any pressure to change that. *Good for you! All I do is scour for the the unknown and the underplayed. I do that because I enjoy it. *Also good for you. The fundamentals here Christian, with all due respect, is that I don't like the record enough to shell out £200 for it. Especially when I consider there to be thousands of other cheaper alternatives, as you've already kindly pointed out for me  *That's fine, I am sure there are people who think it's shit, no big deal is it? The fact that over 200 people have downloaded it and it is still for sale tells its own story, or am I wrong? *You are wrong, it has been sold. Don't take it personally Christian, but you're practically calling 'most people' sheep because they won't buy your rare Detroit record. *Chicago     Most people also does not mean ALL people, most people are indeed not too progressive, even if some are. Lots of good people on here for instance. To be honest, it had little to do with me selling this record, believe it or not, it was more like general moaning about the state of things. Read your posts again and have a think about it, see if you can spot how it comes across. *Umm, maybe you're right, but I think they are quite neutral. If one wants to I am sure they can be interpreted in many negative ways. I'm now going to apologise to you because I'm going to a BBQ now and won't be able to reply to your eloquent response until tomorrow. Don't really see why this should become another debate about something I never intended. Hope you all had a good night, I just woke up myself. I think you know I am a person of integrity and believe in honesty. I agree it definitely ain't a traditional northern soul dancer, but loads of Stafford era tunes, beat ballads, stuff you play yourself, etc. are not really traditional northern dancers either, now are they? In the context of beat ballads and all sorts of more or less undanceable weirdness that has hit the scene over the last 20+ years I think it stands up pretty well, as a dancer. You really shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush, not all of us go out and buy the same old same that every wanna be DJ is buying. *I don't, and I didn't, now did I? Most is not all, and if you feel 'tared' there is not much I can do about it. I know you and others don't go for the same old, same old, but the majority do, don't you agree? There's plenty of good soul, dancers for under £50 if you have the time and patience to look learn and listen *Indeed there is. PS Joseph Webster has been played since the mid to late 80's. link *I already admitted it was not the best example. Even if it has been played it didn't go big until a couple of years ago though, don't you agree? There are many good tunes that have been played for years, in certain circles, that has yet to receive any wider recognition. Guest Jamie
Christian, Thanks for your reply. We could go around in circles on this one, and no-one could ever say your replies are banal, anal maybe, but never banal I did notice the origin of the record (as in the thread title ), but to amuse myself I picked Detroit. I was going to pick Ohio, but I thought you'd pick up on that straight away Next time you're over we'll have a few beers and tell jokes and talk about girls; we'll have a right laugh Sorry if I thought your frustrations we aimed at me, it's just that you vented it in a direct reply to me.
