ImberBoy Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Did Soulgalore at Crofton last night and Martyn Bird played a right belter of a track I had been trying to place for a while now: KENI LEWIS - WHAT'S HER NAME Super tune and first or second time I have heard this, what do you think?
shute Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Agree with you, been after this for a while now, keep missing it or outbid at the last moment everytime on ebay Super tune needs to be played more often
Chalky Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 wasn't there one on here recently for sale? could have been a list I suppose, sure I've seen one somewhere for sale recently.
Russ Vickers Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 There was one for sale at Soul Essence last week, in a little box, as opposed to a dealer, was £250. I have loved this record for many a year, had assumed it had lost favour a little in recent times with the pace raising generally, but no doubt a class tune IMO. Russ
arnie j Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 very nice indeed, first time ive heard it, i imagine it sounds brill out on a big system
Russ Vickers Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I think Andy Rix was mainly responsible for giving this some plays, altho wouldnt wanna swear to that & certainly wasnt exclusive to him........love it to bits. Russ
Guest Trevski Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 That's odd, I have heard this everywhere over the last couple of years, not heard it for about 6 months due to the fact I thought it was played out!

Guest Mark Holmes Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 wasn't there one on here recently for sale? could have been a list I suppose, sure I've seen one somewhere for sale recently. Yep..it was mine. Went fast as well think I had it up for 200 quid. Had to sell some choons but really wished this one hadn't gone. Oh Well the new car is in the driveway and I have an mp3 of it.

Oh Well the new car is in the driveway and I have an mp3 of it. I had a spare up a while back, sold it to Flanny for £110 bargain
Modernsoulsucks Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I like it but can he sing? George Lemons move over! ROD
Epic Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Great tune - as is "Aint Gonna Make It Easy" by Mr Lewis.
Russ Vickers Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 A Colin Curtis spin at the Mecca 1974. Oh well........i didnt start until 3 years later......didnt hear this until at least the 8ts.......those pesky Mecca DJ's !, however, was this a one spin wonder back then ?, as i cant imagine it being a very in vogue kinda sound then ?......some would even have difficulty with it now . Russ
Dave Pinch Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I can remember it being £25 in the mid 90s and both derek pearson and jim eddleston playing it at the wilton. i got one soon after that from blake hellewell and ive given it the odd spin over the years. not played it in a while tho its still in the box dave
bri pinch Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 DIDN'T REALLY HEAR IT PLAYED IN REGULARITY AT THE VENUES I ATTENDED UNTIL THE MID TO LATE 90T'S WHICH IS WHEN I GOT MY COPY OFF BLAKE HELLIWELL. NEVER REALLY THORT HE WAS MUCH OF A SINGER ON THIS PARTICULAR OUTING, BUT THATS DUE TO THE TYPE OF UPBEAT QUIRKY SONG THAT IT IS AND THE WAY HE DELIVERED HIS VOCAL. ON OTHER RECORDS LIKE THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED..AINT GONNA MAKE IT EASY HE SINGS BETTER AND SMOOTHER. BRI PINCH. SUNDAY CHILLOUT, 7TH JUNE, HORSE AND GROOM PUB, EAST LAITH GATE, DONCASTER.
ImberBoy Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Bri, that's a good call on the "quirkiness" Keni Lewis does rather sound as if he has swallowed a pickled egg at the start of the track but that is part of the appeal. I did think there was a warp on the track when I first heard it, now I am convinced the fooker was doing pickled eggs.
Corbett80 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 (edited) I really like this record but the Andy Rix acetate 'Not The Marrying Kind' is something else...top ten record imho Both WHN & NTMK have unusual guitar work in them which make the records... Edited April 27, 2009 by mulf
Benji Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Love it to bits but wouldn't play it out if I had a copy. The lyrics make me sit down and listen to it instead of wobbling around the floor to it...
