Lp that was mentioned on here the other day Supremes and some 45's any way... Whats the score with MCA records I picked up a Rubin and a Danny white cause they were there and cheap.. I've seen several other titles on MCA one being hide nor hair ..and some other bits never really took any notice... But was wondering who's idea was it to release them... are they legit re-issues or are they boots.. Black label with a sort of rainbow on them.. Cheers

Pete S Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 The UK MCA's you mentioned were released directly to appeal to the Northern scene, albeit a little bit late, though they did release Lee Roye while it was just about still being played. They also put out things like Sons Of Moses and Lada Edmund Jr. Unfortunately 3 or 4 big titles had already been put out on US MCA (Jean Carter, Earl Grant, Lee Roye for a start) so the UK stuff was considered second best. But someone at UK MCA knew what they were doing alright. None of them are boots.

None of them are boots. They were genuine, first time releases in the UK, on superior vinyl than the US releases I might add. Thanks for the rest of your posting Pete.

Mind you some of them were available on US MCA imported into the UK shortly before the British releases. Definitely Joey Heatherton and quite a few of the others I recall. Anyway, some Decca promos might be a bit thin but on the whole I always thought the label's vinyl was pretty good. The Jean Carter master has a pressing fault I think - the originals all sound murky at the start too. Didn't notice Joey Heatherton was bad though.

Cheers The American MCA setup owned US Decca, Coral, Brunswick, UNI, Revue and Kapp, among other labels. It started the UK MCA label in the late 60s, and the UK licences for most of its US labels were transferred to UK MCA, mainly from UK Coral, Brunswick and London. UNI got its own identity in the UK a little later. So, definitely legal releases. Cheers Nick

dthedrug Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Hi..Just a reminder to you all a lot of stuff issued in the UK in the 7ts are in most cases 1st UK issues MCA, JAY BOY LONDON BRUNSWICK GRAPEVINE ext, although there were some 2nd issues most of the 7ts stuff is rarer than you think especially as DEMOS, before EBay and the like when collecting was an adventure into secret locations it took me ages to locate items like Jimmy Conwell JAY BOY DEMO, and when I found THE LARUE, MCA DEMO it was like finding gold, I particualy remember try to collect the DISCO DEMAND DEMOS..all I am saying if you collect UK singles there are many sounds that are over looked because the stock copy is not rare..but clearly the demos are just try buying a original FRANK WILSON PICTURE SL DEMO? even after many reissues and boots it still fetches good ££$$£ even copies with Factory Sample stickers are very rare I have only seen 1 and that's in my collection and don't even think that anybody can put a fake sticker on, but mine ain't fake.
