Mick Howard Heywood Manchester

It would be fair to say that Mick and his wife Karen are two of the mainstays of the scene in the North-West today. Both regulars at LOWTON CIVIC and a host of venues all across the North-West over the years, they have become barometers of quality venues, which thankfully, includes CULCHETH and ASHTON UKRAINIAN where Mick is involved as a DJ and co-promoter. Looking at Micks favourite selections both current and past, you can see why he’s part of the team at Saturdays ALL-DAYER

Mick's LOWTON MEMORIES

Gladys Knight " No One Can Love You More"

Calvin Grayson "Love's Just Begun"

Curly Moore "You Don't Mean"

Barbara Lynn "Moving On A Groove"

Nolan Porter "If I Could Only Be Sure"

MICK's Five Current Spins

Ivy Jo "I Can Feel The Pain"

The Dramatics "Your Love Was Strange"

The Gambrells "You Better Move"

The Holidays "I Lost You"

The Vontels "Ta Hula Hoop"

Mick n Karen.jpg

Absolutely 100% salt-of-the-earth top people, always welcoming faces at Ashton when we've attended, Karen and Mick part n parcel of the scene....and mr.Howard has a tremendous array of tunes in his playbox....could well be wooden legs here, after he's finished his set!💃🎵🎶🕺😉👍

I echo your thoughts Steve - it's easy to underestimate how much work goes into pulling these things together and Baz is one of the hardest working promoters out there, as well as a fantastic DJ able of pulling together amazing sets across the sub-genres which many are not aware of ..... deffo not a pigeon hole X-over and Modern DJ, in fact a Dark Horse .... his profile is missing from this thread isn't it!!!

Footnote - Baz paid me to say all that :D

SO......Here's the thing....the very modest, unassuming, charming and passionate heart-on-the-sleeve lover of everything soulful, instigator of this event ( AND HE DIDN'T PAY ME TO SAY THAT🤣🤣 ) hasn't got his profile on here because it's entirely unnecessary for him to do that....because i'm doing it instead!

Barry Maleedy ( no this is not an Eammon Andrews introduction ) just so happens to be a top bloke who displays his attributes in the best way possible and in a time honoured manner associated with other discerning djs of his ilk...behind the turntables, introducing the listener and dancer alike to a plethora of great tuneage both known and to the aspiring amongst us, unknown....he also multi-tasks the different genres past and present with consumate ease.

En masse, you Lancastrians have known him far longer than me, my association began with Prestwich, through the relaunch of Lowton, to present day...so basically, it amounts to pretty much 25 years.

I helped him run Tsop for almost 3 years when he saw no reason to pull the plug, and even when the annual reunions took place iwas there to help him again.

It became a very similar ' partnership ' with Lowton Civic, somewhat longer at 7 years...Barry's enthusiam and optimism never waivered. When that venue came to a sudden end, he'd slready cased the locale for a new venue...keep the fires burning, keep the spirit going. Inbetween there was a short engagement at Lowton Labour club, but Barry wasn't to rest on his laurels and the rmergent village hall at nearby Culcheth has proved to be a happy home for those continuing to seek solace in music that continues the trend of being off piste...off the beaten track...less oldie orientated, more mould breaking in homage to the original catalyst, Stafford...from whence Lowton and many other venues sought to change people's opinions and broaden their horizons.....Barry, to my mind, has always been a champion of that, at the same time eager to hear what others are playing as it's highly likely he has the proverbial wants list as long as his arm...no surprise there then.....but, he has incredible knowledge with it and the wisdom to select like minded selectors for his functions.

Barry as many of you know, has also had his brushes with health concerns, i can share that with him, as can Ian, and probably a good few more.....his will and determination to get back into the slipstream of the scene and put those demons..or challenges if you like behind him, is nothing short of admirable and courageous.

His wife Sue, has stood by him like a rock and anchor, and a more successful marriage you couldn't wish to know of.

Barry Maleedy the dj has a who's who of where he's played and whom with, a lifetime of great memories, functions and friends...he'd probably say that the venues i've mentioned, are amongst his all time favourites...and apologies as ive forgotten the Orwell, along with Mr. Plumb, Mr. Flanders and Mr. Connor...what a quartet they are in full flow!.

Anyway......i'm sure we all wish Barry, nothing but total and absolute success with tomorrow's function...if anyone deserves a full house, it our Bazza...hopefully Leigh Leopards ( is it? ) will have heard the news, BM being a supporter of the oval ball, and will come and celebrate the occasion with him too...if that Cunliffe bloke pulls his finger out like i told him to!🤣.

WELL DONE BARRY, YOU ARE SIMPLY ' THE BEST '👏👏😉👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Here's a map of the area - The Village Club is marked, plenty of parking available but if it's maxed out the best options are off the main road B5207 there's some parking near the green (see red arrow) and it's probably a 5min walk back to the club.

I'm not sure Wigshaw Lane itself is a good place to park - it may even be restricted.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, will give the village hall a try first. Then if it's busy will head for that one.
