About The Event

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2025 we're looking once again to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.

Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.

Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.

In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.

We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

Well as NYE celebrations await, time to look back with an enormous sense of pride and satisfaction of what has been a monumental year at Ashton Ukrainian Club!!

So many highlights and some nights that will live long in the memory and of course most importantly quality music throughout the year. We aim to put varied DJ line ups on for The Ashton Faithful who turn up every month and create the indefinable Atmosphere and we don't say this lightly, without you guys, we simply couldn't do it, so take a bow!!

A lot of thought and consideration goes into every event, long may it continue!! We've had some esteemed guests probably gonna miss a few names out I'm sure, so apologies in advance!! A few names that jump out Andy Dyson at our Anniversary event in February, just awesome!! Roger Banks who always entertains and educates in equal measures and who could forget the May event which was a long time in the planning, with nerves jangling over the ticket allocation for when we had Mark Butch Dobson as our guest DJ and thanks to our resident "Fixer" Simon Ingham who went above and beyond at no little cost to make sure the sound equipment was A1!!

It was a warm May evening and Lord Ashton Chris Churm was trying to block out the late evening sunshine from the main room, shutting the high window curtains, when the curtain rail gave way and came crashing down...............Chris went into full on Basil Fawlty meltdown, hopping about crazily. In steps Super Hero Keano with his trusty step ladder and toolbox, minutes later, order restored..... PHEW!!!

Ted Massey did his usual high quality set in July, as we've come to expect!! Our August date, so we thought might be quiet, with people on holidays, ermmm no, it was maybe our busiest night of the year, with some mind blowing sets from Stuart Raith, Gis Southworth and Paul Johnson. We were lucky enough to have Tim Ashibende behind the decks twice this year, some amazing stories behind every track that hits the turntable!!!

Some returnee DJ sets that always deliver include Baz Maleady and Alan Jenkins two quality guys, with collections to match. Can't forget Natalie Nicholls the driving force behind The Excellent Wolfies Soul Nights, who moved heaven and earth to high tail up the M6 for an amazing set, she will deffo be back behind the decks in 2025!! Matt Sneath was for me another highlight, first time behind the decks and he smashed it!!! As did local legend Mr Ian Wills, I bet you won't hear a better early doors set!!!!

All that remains is to wish one and all a Happy New Year and we'll catch you in the New Year. Saturday January 18th, put that date in your diary !!

Mick, I'd like to wish you and Karen a Happy New Year, you've quite rightly asked the Ashton Faithful to take a bow of which I'm not one yet, but I aim to become one in the new year. I'm saying to you Mr Howard that you too Sir should take a bow yourself for all the hard work you do in promoting this venue. Credit were it's due pal. I'll see you on the 18th and It'll be the first time I've seen Chalky DJ since Simon persuaded him to come out of retirement to do The Bury Town Hall Allnighter a few years ago. Most of the main hall came up to support him in the Kenwood Suite upstairs and he gave them a wonderful selection of Lifeline classics and unreleased things as well. 👍👏👏

Awww thanks Bob, my pleasure, it's a labour of love and we like to think we provide a quality night out at the right price. We never rest on our laurels and keep pushing forward. Great news you're coming down and yeah Chalky usually pulls a few surprises out from the Lifeline Niters, onwards and upwards for 2025 🙌

Agreed and for me an Ivy Jo situation, been about in collections for years but never seemed to do it self justice on the dance floor. Ivy Jo finally getting the attention it deserves at last!! Time for The Versatones to have it's day!!
