Bazm 1,051 Posted August 12 It is with GREAT pleasure that we announce our SPECIAL GUEST DJ for SEPTEMBER is SOUL SAM! Many of you will be aware that Sam has not been in the best of health for the best part of 8months, so to see him back and doing what he does best is a real joy. Sam’s appearance at CULCHETH on SEPTEMBER 7th will be the first time he’s DJ’d at a SOUL NIGHT in the NORTH-WEST since his illness, so we want to give him a big warm welcome. On the night, Sam will be DJing in both the main room and the modern room, he’ll be returning to his soul ‘roots’ in the main room spinning a real ‘across the board’ set, with a selection of QUALITY 60’s Northern, mixed with some of his 70’s MONSTERS, so expect something a bit special from the man who can 1 Link to comment
Bazm 1,051 Posted August 21 Very much looking forward to Sam diggin' into his Northern 'box' at CULCHETH on the 7th... Even though he's more known for his Modern Soul sets, he's obviously got a history of DJ'ing on the Northern scene and being responsible for championing some fantastic sounds over the years. This one reminds me of one of his regular guest spots at the SAINTS club in St Helens and him playing this latest acquisition and watching jaws drop in awe 2 Link to comment
Bazm 1,051 Posted August 24 A touch of class and a touch of a record at home, these days in both the Modern and Northern rooms, largely down to the likes of Sam and Butch Link to comment
Jessie Pinkman 612 Posted August 25 It'll be great to see Sam back fidgeting with the control knobs. This one has been packing dance floors for years for him, probably even at the SAINTS Baz. 1 Link to comment

Bazm 1,051 Posted August 29 Not sure if Sam got the full plaudits for this record, but it'll be in his box for the Northern Room at Culcheth Link to comment
Bazm 1,051 Posted August 31 Anyone who attends CULCHETH soul nights will know that the ethos is to maintain the values of the scene in general. The main room features DJ's, residents and guests, who over the years have collected rare soul records and who have played their records not only at CULCHETH but anywhere they are asked to DJ. So, rare and underplayed has become a guideline as to what to expect to hear on the first Saturday of the month sessions... so on that basis expect to hear one of the 'rarest of the rare' from Soul Sam 2 Link to comment
Jessie Pinkman 612 Posted August 31 (edited) I know The Mark IV is one of Soul Sams favourite spins, I'm pretty sure it could get turntable action in either room next Saturday An original copy was found not long ago in one of our main dealers Canadian stores whilst having a stock check, mixed in with The Jacksons, Tavares etc A nice bonus for somebody. Yes Bob quite right, one for both rooms and definitely in Sam's box... 1 Link to comment

Bazm 1,051 Posted September 4 So, while genuinely excited about having SOUL SAM back on the ‘Wheels’ at CULCHETH, it would be remiss not to mention the strength of the residents team lined up for this coming SATURDAY 7th SEPTEMBER. Firstly, the main room, featuring the best of the best in rare, classic and underplayed 60’s and 70’s soul. KEV MURPHY is enjoying well deserved recognition for his years of championing rare Northern Soul. Since LOWTON CIVIC HALL Kev has been at the forefront of collecting and playing some of the best rare soul 45’s, from main room classics to genuinely underplayed tunes which he’s featured and brought to the attention of soul lovers hungry for great ear and foot candy alike. Kev is joined on Saturday, and on a regular basis by ASHTON UKRAINIAN regular, SIMON INGHAM. Simon got the 'bug' back in the late 80’s and has collected rare soul with a passion since then and is still going strong today. Testament to that, will be Ralph Graham ‘She Just Sits There’, Johnny Gilliam ‘Room Full of Tears’ along with left fielders from The Exotics, Lou Bond, Garnet Mimms and a few surprises, getting a spin from Simon’s play box on Saturday. Next up is another guest spinner this Saturday, ROBBO. The charismatic and devoted soul man from Manchester, will be gracing the decks and showing why he is still one of the most loved and respected guys on the scene. Dig into his play box and you will find records that he’s championed at various venues across the North West over the years and because of all these things he’ll always be a part of the CULCHETH fabric…expect the unexpected but expect quality! Away from the main room, the MODERN ROOM at CULCHETH is a ‘Do within a Do’. Standing on its own merits, the Modern Room ticks all the boxes for those looking for tunes with that more modern ‘feel’. So be it 70’s 80’s 90’s, right up to today’s latest new vinyl releases, the MODERN ROOM at CULCHETH, satisfies the need! Residents in the MODERN ROOM have as good a CV as the boys in the main room, with STEVE PLUMB heading the list. STEVE has been at the forefront of the Modern scene for years and his knowledge and taste is a true reflection of that. A DJ with sets at some of the best modern events in the UK and Europe, not to mention the highly acclaimed So Soulful 70’s North West Soul nights, Steve is an integral part of the CULCHETH vibe. BILL WILDMAN, is an unassuming character with a deep history of DJing at some of the North Wests’ favourite venues. CASSINELLIS and NEWTON CRICKET CLUB are two that come to mind straight away. Bill, brings the music from those venues, as well as other venues he frequented in the 80’s and 90’s like RAFTERS, PARKERS and the HALFWAY HOUSE, so expect some great modern soul selections from Bill when he takes to the decks. I guess that just leaves me supporting a brilliant team on Saturday…not much to say about that really, apart from looking forward to it, genuinely enjoy CULCHETH every month and hope to see some of you for a great night out on Saturday 3 Link to comment
