About The Event

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2024 we're looking to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.

Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.

Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.

In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.

We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

Well on a super busy weekend on the Soul Calendar Saturday October 19th Ashton Ukrainian Club brings you a Stellar Line up!!

Two of the mainstays from the much missed Grumpy Soul Nights will be joining us behind the decks for one night only and WHAT a night it promises to be, with huge interest already!!

Phil Threlfall has an amazing collection expect the best sounds from The Post Wigan Era and beyond in the words of The Prophets "if I had one gold piece" (or in Ashton £5) you get to experience an amazing evening of Rare Soul!!

Jumping Joan has an infectious personality, which shines like a Soulful Beacon, dragging folk to the dancefloor, mixing the rarities with quality cheapies, which are just too good, not to dance to!!

We are also honored for the second time this year to welcome Tim Ashibende, as well as being a great historian in the history of our scene, Tim is a quality DJ, canny wait for his return!!

Ian Wills is sooo looking forward to his debut set and so are we, expect the best from the halcyon days to current big spins!!

Phil Dunn will be opening the night for all our early birds!! Team Ukrainian OG Chris Churm completes the line up, well known of late as "The Finisher" with some legendary end of evening sets !!

Please check out the thread, for some quality DJ selections for you to enjoy and please RSVP the event!!

The night runs 7pm-00.30, don't miss it!!

In keeping with the Ashton Ethos, as well as the big money rarities solid bargain basement groovers like this will be show cased. Here's one of the worlds finest male vocal groups, which regularly features in Joan's DJ sets!!

Into the final few days and lots of interest, as you would expect with this line up, talking to people, out and about at the weekend!!

We look forward to Ian Wills, digging deep into his collection, pulling out mid tempo gems like this!!

Ian Wills is probably better known, as one the residents in Mr M's at Wigan, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the c/u's of the time. Here's one of the lesser known spins from the later years, still sounding the business!!

Sticking with Ian Wills selections. The Latter years at Wigan as well as unearthing new 60s discoveries, storming 70s dancers like this were rubbing shoulders, to equal effect on the dancefloor!!!

Anyone going to Ashton who could possibly pick me up from the Village Hotel please, it is on the same junction as the club on the M60.  Beer or petrol chucked in of course.
