About The Event

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2024 we're looking to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.

Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.

Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.

In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.

We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

Looking forward to welcoming back Grumpy Soul Residents Phil Threlfall and Jumpin' Joan behind the decks, expect a healthy slice of Stafford, Shotts biggies and never afraid to dig deep and showcase some under the radar quality cheapies, just how we like it!!

Add to that two Legends from the Halcyon days at Wigan Casino Ian Wills Ashton Ukrainian Regular and well known as one of the resident DJs at Mr M's, there is so much more to Ian, a real knowledgeable guy, with a collection to match!! Tim Ashibende needs no introduction a well known face from the casino days and along with Butch was one of the original crate diggers in the US unearthing many of today's big sounds!! Still very active on the scene today after a recent DJ spot at the 100 club.

You just know it's gonna be good, October 19th, put that date in your diary!!

As September draws to a close, we're already laying plans for when The Grumpy Soul Crew are back with us at Ashton Ukrainian Club.

Saturday October 19th another Top DJ line up awaits Phil Threlfall and Jumpin' Joan bringing you all the biggies from Iconic Soul Clubs in the 80s Stafford TOTW, Shotts, Morecambe Pier and many more, mixed in with some quality "back of the box" cheapies, just waiting to light up the dance floor!!

Add to that ex Mr M's resident Ian Wills and fellow Wigan Casino stalwart Tim Ashibende, both of these guys have been active Post Wigan and Tim in particular, is responsible for unearthing some of today's current big spins to the scene while he was viny hunting Stateside late 70s and built up an enviable list of dealer and record producer contacts !! Both capable of providing a few surprises in their sets, not to be missed for sure!!

Phil Dunn will be kick starting the proceedings and Ashton Head Honcho Chris Churm will be providing the usual rock solid support!!!

All this for just £5 admission pay on the door, the night runs 7pm-00.30 Record Sales Boxes are most welcome, as the bar area doubles as a chill out/record sales area. Some top quality vinyl been changing hands recently!!

See you there!!

I rather think that it'll be a great night of quality music, where all the DJs will compliment each other than some kind of competition Mick, they all have something special to bring to the table
