Mucho Moderno! So Soulful Seventies and more as SO SOULFUL SATURDAY’S returns to CULCHETH on Saturday June 3rd.

This month sees the return of SS70’s Supremo, STEVE PLUMB, back to CULCHETH with his usual selection of quality tuneage. Steve is joined by PETE RATCLIFFE, sunned and refreshed from his ‘jollies’ with his box topped-up with more of the latest, new, independent release, soul 45’s to preview some of 2023’s dancefloor movers and shakers. The rarer side of Modern is ably taken care of this month by top collector, DJ, CHARLIE SMITH, delving into his incredible collection of super-rare, dancefloor winners, so expect to hear the likes of Flourecent Smog, United Sounds, Mixed Feelings, Freedom, Doc Peabody, 1-20 Connection and many more!

The filling in the modern ‘sandwich’ is brought to you by Bill Wildman, a favourite from North -West venues, Cassinellis and Newton Cricket Club, as Bill showcases some of the great album tracks and 12’s from those days and more, and finally Baz Maleedy, with his box covering everything from the 70’s though to new releases.

If your taste is for ‘Modern Soul’ then ‘So Soulful Saturdays’ is for you, Join Us, You Just Might Like It…

Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE who came to CULCHETH on Saturday.

The obvious concern was the F.A. Cup Final combining with perfect BBQ weather! But not to worry as the CULCHETH faithful turned out as well as some very much welcome first timers, who I genuinely hope enjoyed themselves. The music, the main reason for CULCHETH was great, Jordan Wilson , Kevin Murphy and Simon, ably assisted by our special guest Ted Massey , pulled out all the stops with a superb mix of rare, underplayed and floor–fillers thrown in for good measure, keeping the knowledgeable crowd very happy.

The Modern Room buzzed to the latest new release vinyl selections from Pete Ratcliffe , early doors. Bill Wildman in full effect with some great 80’s steppers and rare grooves, Charlie Smith dropping his rarest of the rare 70’s and Mr Dependable, Steve Plumb as entertaining as always, especially when he dropped a total surprise and earworm over the past few days for me Lamont Dozier ‘You Ought To Be in Pictures’ Brilliant! If you like ‘Modern Soul’ you’ll love the across the board policy at CULCHETH

I had chance to play in both rooms on Saturday, which was an absolute pleasure for me, I hope those who were there at the beginning and the end enjoyed it.

Here’s my main room play list (in no particular order) and a few pics from the night, Thanks Angie Heap Wills x
