Review of the very well attended earlier night...
As several DJs, attendees and dancers have already made clear, it was a superb night of quality soul music, old and not so old. The venue looked and performed exceptionally well, as did the DJs who kept the dancefloor rocking all night. It was a credit to them and the dancers that such high quality stuff packed the floor. We certainly had a tasteful turnout - and it was a big one! Cars and people on the large car park before doors opened at 7pm! Keen or what. And it was almost full to capacity by 10pm!
Ray opened the night with some popular classics.
Dekka Banks followed, in much the same theme, as the place filled up nicely. Non-stop killers with the Four Pros "Just Another Girl" the most popular of the night so far.
John Weston was next, with yet another varied selection of gems, boxed specially for the night. Some very cool stuff, including the timeless Joseph Moore. Wonderful!
Dave Evison followed at 10pm, again with some not-oft-heard oldies - which worked! Nothing bog standard about this night.
Rob Smith, earlier than his more usual 'graveyard' set, kept everyone happy with a nice mix of underplayed oldies and rarities like Yvonne Vernee's "Just Like You Did Me". Excellent!
Sam Moore took to the stage at midnight with great mix of super-classics and underplayed gems, the highlight for me being Garland Green's "Angel Baby".
I wrapped things up from 1 - 2am, with many staying until close. The more hardcore stop-outs getting a more serious selection, including my lad's favourite Betty Fikes "Prove It To Me", which is fast acquiring a following.
The dancefloor was in great shape and certainly didn't require any talc!
xx
