About The Event

Going from strength to strength, month by month by focusing on the core values of the scene, the music; familiar selections from years gone by, from some of the great venues of the past, the Wheel, Torch, Wigan, Cats, Cleethorpes, Mecca, Stafford and Lowton, all mixed with more recent discoveries and underplayed gems from the DJ’s collections… making new memories while holding dear those from the past, CULCHETH is continuing the traditions of the scene.

Join us on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 5th and experience for yourself the camaraderie, the music and great atmosphere of the main room. Hear the sounds, loud and clear, feel the ‘vibe’ and enjoy the dance.

Our special guest on November 5th is IAN ‘PEP’ PEREIRA Ian Pep Pereira a true veteran of the scene, DJ Pep will be dipping into his fantastic collection and playing the best of the best in quality Northern Soul, like only he can. Pep will be joined by CULCHETH residents, BOB HINSLEY, Lowton Main Man, KEV MURPHY, Kevin Murphy Manchester‘s favourite son, ROBBO, dedicated DJ JORDAN WILSON Jordan Wilson and the up and coming, SIMON INGHAM, all playing a fantastic selection of sounds, some of which will be featured on this post over the next few weeks…

For those who like a more ‘Modern ‘sound, the Ariel Lounge is for you. The Ariel is the CULCHETH modern room, self-contained with its own dance floor and quality sound system, the Ariel is where you’ll hear Soulful 70’s, Eclectic 80’s and modern soul all the way through to today’s latest releases curtsey of our popular ‘New Release Focus Session’ in the first welcoming hour 8-9pm with PETE RATCLIFFE Pete Ratcliffe . After that expect the unexpected, album trackin’ with BILL WILDMAN Bill Wildman , when he drops forgotten dance tracks from clubs like Rafters, Cassinellis and Newton Cricket Club, venues where the album was the DJ’s format of choice. Following that, North West Collector, CHARLIE SMITH entertains the dancefloor with the ‘Rarest of The Modern Rare’, United Sounds, Fluorescent Smog, Joseph Webster, Chuck Cockerham, Mixed Feelings and the Fabulous Playmates are names you’ll be familiar with after an hour with Charlie. Our November special guest is one half of the DAB OF SOUL team Mr DAVE LUCAS Dave Lucas . Dave is no stranger to North West modern rooms; a regular at pretty much every key Modern venue over the past 20 years, Dave along with Chris Anderton, has promoted the DAB OF SOUL soul nights and weekenders for the past 11years, so you can expect some great tuneage for Dave. I’ll be taking you through to 1am and hopefully sending everybody home happy, so if you enjoy the ‘Modern’ from classics to rarities, then make CULCHETH your ‘Must Visit’ night

See you there… Baz M

Here's one of those records that fits in either room comfortably.

The House Brothers ~ Shake ~ North Broad Street Records

Without doubt the best new all-rounder since Big Lee Dowell "What I done wrong" in 2016. Imho

Dancefloor grid lock expected in both rooms on Saturday 5th Nov.

Imagine how wonderful this will sound on Baz's massive main room sound system

Big thumbs up to John Buckley & Colin Law for the release of this one.

WOW, HOW GOOD IS THIS RECORD!

I Know Pete takes care of all the new releases in the modern Ariel lounge.

Quite often as well as all the rareties and not so rare, the odd new release occasionally makes it into the main room.

As well as the brilliant House Brothers track this one from the Detroit Emeralds has just been released on a 7" via Kent.

Previously only available on the "Do me right" album and a promo 1973 UK various artists EP,

It's now more DJ friendly and raring to go on a 7" here's The Detroit Emeralds "Long live the king"

The Ballads had 2 goes at making Leon Ware's "I wish I knew" into something special.

Their first attempt in 1968/69 was pretty damn good, however in 1975 they re-recorded it and changed

the title to Butterfly and for me a 70's masterpiece was made.

Kent select have just released a previously un-released version by the excellent Joe Buckner,

This version by The Ballads could be a possible spin for the early doors crowd this Saturday.

This one from Dennis Edwards is residing in Simon's box somewhere,

it's probably at the back with cobwebs & dust on it. lol

I didn't see him playing this one in my crystal ball but one can never rule it out

I seem to remember selling this one to Simon at Lowton many many years ago.

It's probably residing in his box right behind Dennis Edwards lol

Again, I didn't see him playing this one either in my crystal ball, but one can never rule it out
