About The Event

Some words from the original Morecambe Pier and Soul Promotions promoter Shaun Gibbons:

Since the all-nighters in Morecambe ceased in the 1990’s I’ve often been asked whether I would be interested in putting anything on again and have to admit that it’s something that’s been developing as an idea in more recent years as I’ve started to enjoy venturing out again as many of us have, meeting familiar faces from the past and making new friends along the way.

2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the first Morecambe Central Pier all-nighter and to mark the occasion it seemed fitting to pull together all the ideas and launch an event returning to almost where it all started. Obviously, the Pier isn’t an option as sadly it burnt down, but the final venue we moved to in Morecambe afterwards, was equally great in its own way, THE CARLTON!!  And we’re proud to announce that we’ve secured it to celebrate the anniversary (Although they have changed the name to the Alhambra , but we’ll ignore that, this IS the Carlton!).

So, on Saturday 15th April 2023, we are going to do it all again, with original Pier DJ’s, 2 rooms and wooden sprung dancefloor (you can’t see the sea between the floorboards – we couldn’t get it perfect). So, this is it, the return of ‘Soul Promotions’ to Morecambe. If you liked the Pier and the Carlton, then here’s your chance to do it all again and just like every anniversary, there’s even patches to add to your collections. 

 

What made ‘The Pier’ and ‘The Carlton’ so special was the people who came, so you know the date we can’t wait to see faces old and new, you didn’t have to attend the original events to enjoy the wonderful music; everyone is welcome.

Brian Rae should have been in this photo with the rest of the Morecambe resident DJs, but as usual he was playing the bandit and the space invader games!!

For those of you within travelling distance of Morecambe for a soul-night, Mr Soul Promotions himself (Shaun Gibbons) is DJing tonight at the MVP's no doubt warming up for the main anniversary event on the 15th!

I've had the pleasure of being a guest there myself, superb event, nice folk and great cross section of music - well worth a visit IMO :thumbup:

So looking forward to what is set to be a fantastic event! Definitely a case of 'all roads lead to Morecambe' on the 15th with two great rooms and top, top sounds on offer.

Good buzz around tomorrow it seems 

Full-on Morecambe memories in the main room and it promises to be rammed so I'd get in early I reckon. Kick-off is 7pm with Richard of course.

The second room will run from 8pm until 2am with messrs Ingham, Banks, Fortnum and myself playing the records so anyone who fancies listening or cutting a rug to some what I think is now referred to as 'rare and underplayed' tackle should give it a whirl. There'll be plenty of both on offer, 100% guaranteed.

All in all then, looks like all bases will be covered at the Alhambra tomorrow night, whatever you're particular bag.👍

A rightful claim to fame from the Pier - Shaun Gibbons was the first to grace the decks with what became an absolute monster for years to follow and still packs the floors, c/u as George Blackwell
