Last Saturday was back to what we to to the Grosvenor for! Fast paced top dance floor filling tunes the atmosphere was electric KTF We can't please everyone. I was a guest DJ on Saturday on at 9 till 10 & the response to my set was phenomenal. Never had such a great response after my set before. I played to the dance floor. Classic Oldies with pace... regards Paul Dooley... 2
Popular Comment soul nut 18 Posted November 22, 2021 Popular Comment Thank you for the positive comments regarding the Grosvener Rooms getting back to what it's noted for up tempo dance tracks and the dancers hitting the floor, my find a night. I applaud the promoters and DJs for taking note to the comments and doing something about it, my original post did not fall on deaf ears, unfortunately I could not attend but will be at the next one after reading the latest posts. Long live the uptempo dance tracks, far to many venues play slow to midtempo in my area so I have to travel to get the music I like to dance to, the day I have to dance to the likes of House for Sale we be the day I hang my shoes up and stop going to northern soul gigs. Several posters prior to this months event expressed concerns as to the drift towards slower softer and in my own words " late 70`s /80s "Tosh", and the promotors then picked up on this clearly stating a return to... in the main ..100mph classics/dancers. One of the guest DJ`s posted coming into the event " Box filled and ready to go with 100mph dancers" So what exactly were you expecting? Perhaps the back room which tends to be more 60/70s Motown slower, almost disco from that period may have been a more to your liking? Really???? I had not seen the soul source posts before I went, didn't even know you could post there. So what exactly I was expecting was: What I had experienced on the other two visits, what do you call it? "Tosh" I was mortified to find after travelling, that the music was catering for only one type of dancer, could not even get a couple token records played while you energetic lot were having a little rest. Thank you very much for your advice about the Motown/Disco room, but like you, I like proper "Northern Soul", beautiful soulful music with all kinds of varying tempos. So "no" disco and Motown is not to my liking. I have absolutely no problem with fast tempo records, but not all night, I cant see why anyone has a problem with playing something for everyone. But anyway if the venue is 100mph going forward, now I know, I will give it a miss, its not a problem for me. Thinking of changing my name to Cheryl Tosh btw

As for your opening sentence regarding not seeing or even knowing you could post on the events forum pages well..... REALLY ? 1

There are increasingly few venues for what I call ‘proper’ NS dancers and Grosvenor is one. I’m not a dancer myself but love to watch dancers burning up the floor to up-tempo stuff (as was the case on Saturday). I was at the night that provoked this thread and it was as flat as I’ve known it there. I don’t go to watch people ‘two stepping’ to mid-tempo tunes. Plenty of other places to do that if that’s what floats your boat. stick to your USP Grosvenor Thank you for your advice regarding other venues, I am aware, and do go to many other fantastic events. I am a proper Northern Soul dancer btw, it doesn't all have to be 100mph. I can dance to all tempos without doing a two step action? I just want to dance to all types of tempo. I am not a watcher I am dancer and 100mph is not sustainable for people who want to dance a lot.

Magpie69 27 Posted November 22, 2021 Cheryl, I think we can both agree to differ on our preferences. I suppose we have to try different venues and continue to attend those that suit us and avoid those that don’t. What I would say is that the Grosvenor has always had an “up-tempo” reputation and for many people that is what gives it the atmosphere it generates (with one or two hiccups as noted earlier). Please continue to use Soul Source for information and keep on dancing. That’s what it’s all about. P.S. I would recommend you give any “Eggborough” nights at Drax a miss - you would hate it! 1

Timillustrator 698 Posted November 22, 2021 There really are literally hundreds and hundreds of venues playing all tempos and across the board, probably 90% of events on Soul Source. By me I can usually choose from about 8-10 events a weekend, within an hour but to be honest there's not much to distinguish them and I go for the one with the cleanest dancefloor. There's probably less than a dozen playing uptempo all night (or even the majority of the night), Grosvenor Rooms, Wigan Empire, Sherwood Forest, The Boat, Willington, Macclesfield, Macabre Soul, Lea Hall, some of them are occasional. Please do keep it up, it would be a shame for everything to turn out the same. 1
