Sorry to hear he died last night.

 

A great guy, I was very lucky to interview him in 2001 before he came over to the UK.

Very sad news indeed mate I know the family were desperate to find a kidney for him , I had a lovely half hour with him at Prestatyn and He signed both my disc's by him He seemed to me to be true gent and an all round nice guy .God bless Lou Pride.Peace,

so sad to hear the big man has passed away,never forget the the double brandy he bought me sat night in

Chicago after a joke i told him,a top guy who loved us over here

RIP Lou, another good one lost.

I interviewed him at Prestatyn & asked what inspired "I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un".

He said it came about after a call home to his then girlfriend; she was missing him so he told her what she wanted to hear (the song title) .......... he got off the phone & wrote the lyrics out almost straight away.

So I asked the obvious .... So did you head home in the morning ??

He broke down in fits of laughter and told us that he never went home to her at all.

Can only echo the above sentiments. Had a great time when Mick, Andy and myself went to dinner with Lou and don Gardner. Had a great time with him at the 100 Club about ten years ago as well. Smashing bloke and nothing too much trouble for him.

Rest in peace Lou.

I echo that, one of the greatest records ever made, as a 15 year old buying that I thought I had the Holy Grail despite it only being a £5 emidisc, I almost wore it out, loved it for 37 years now, I also met Lou at Prestatyn, just imagine, walking past the guy who made that record and going "Alright Lou?" and him saying "How ya doin".... that was LOU PRIDE who just spoke to me! RIP Lou.

the whole aspect of comin home

the story, the delivery, the build up

god knows how many times over the years when away from family have run thru those lyrics

"i received a call from my woman telling me...."

then prestatyn, not just his performance but the off stage

ack, every day sad news it seems

rip lou pride and thanks for the memories

Very sad news indeed. I'm Coming Home was the first song outside the obvious northern hits that really snared me - in many ways it changed my life. Thank you Lou and RIP.

Played "Your love is fading" to a very appreciative crowd on Saturday night, totally unaware the big man was on his last legs .

One of the best artists ever .and his rendition of "its a mans world " has to be one of the best ever !

Really sad news

I remember suggesting Lou Pride as an artist for Prestatyn and Rob Thomas did the rest

He was a true gentleman and had time for everyone

He was really pleased with the welcome and love shown by his British Fans

now, many times when news about another sad loss appeared on here I said to myself "oh no, not him/her (already)" often being deeply saddened by the loss of an artist who has given me so much...but this time I am especially shocked, touched and sad. what a great voice he had, what monumental status his recordings had, haveand will continue to have. Last year I was in contact with Lou and his management trying to bring him over for our yearly New Years Eve Weekender. But sadly time was too short to finalize what would have been another dream of my life becoming reality..having brought him over to perform in Berlin. And now it is too late...

RIP Lou Pride.

Yep, I'll always be grateful to Bob from Louth for turning up with the then unknown copy of "I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un" which I almost didn't buy 'cos the title looked country and western..........

....but then I heard the record over the cans and changed my mind right sharp! :lol:

Met him in Chicago a few years ago. Discussed his outing on Albatross which he remembered instantly.

Very good recall for facts.

Lovely man and sadly missed.

A sad loss indeed. He was a wonderful, gracious and kind man.

I was honoured to be able to introduce him live on stage at Prestatyn. A memorable night indeed considering Rob Thomas and I located him to do the gig, not that he was really lost, and that it was Rob who had the first copy of his iconic 45

I know this is a Northern Soul forum, but he recorded quality soul for over 30 years and apart posts about 'Mornin' there's only one mention of his Albatross release let alone his other stuff, shame really.

Yep, I have to concede on this one.

So Sad, I had the privilge of seeing Lou at the Cluny in Byker. Newcastle several years ago, One of the best artists I have ever seen. His act was professional, sxciting and when he came into the crowd to sing, what can I say, I shook Lou Prides hand!! True Talent, so much more than one record, thank you Lou

Have been going through some of the Dig Deeper archive, including some video from Lou Pride's performance on July 23, 2011, at our 3rd anniversary. The ballad "You were never mine" broke our hearts at the time, and is all the more poignant now. We miss you, Lou.
