...sterling efforts on demos were soon rewarded, as again with Marc Gordon producing a number of mainly Frank Wilson penned songs were cut with a view to landing Mary her own recording contract. Arthur Wright was the arranger on the work and although Mary was still very young and unschooled in studio techniques with the help and encouragement of the talented team around her the tracks that resulted were of a very high quality.Marc Gordon secured Mary a deal with Modem Records and her 1st single "You Turned My Bitter Into Sweet / Im In Your Hands" (Modem 1006) was released in 1965. This was an instant hit, first locally and then nationally and its success led to it being released....

Sad to read this Ady, I can see her smile now as she sat opposite me at breakfast on the Monday morning after her appearance at Prestatyn some years ago.

Although I've always favoured male vocalists this was one lady I could listen to all day.

From "You Turned My Bitter Into Sweet" right through too "Come Out Off The Sand Box"

all great stuff.

Sad news.

I have fond memories of Mary and Brad from the late 1980s.

The track most special for me is 'Lord Of My Life', one of my favourite gospel tracks ever.

Rest in peace.

I had the great pleasure of interviewing her for Blues & Soul when she appeared at Fleetwood in the late 80s. She was a warm, genuine person and very honest in her account of her troubled upbringing. RIP Mary.
