Unreleased Marvin Gaye LP - You're The Man

Unreleased Marvin Gaye LP - You're The Man magazine cover

You're The Man contains several previously unreleased tracks and is issued to celebrate what would have been his 80th birthday this week.

added by site

You’re The Man is the first-ever planned “lost” Tamla/Motown album from Marvin Gaye. Fifteen (15) of the album’s 17 tracks are on vinyl for the first time and three tracks are newly mixed by SaLaAM ReMi. The album also includes the rare long LP version of Marvin Gaye’s cancelled Christmas single from ’72, as well as an unreleased vault mix of its instrumental B-side, and new essay by Marvin’s biographer, David Ritz. The release will coincide with the 60th anniversary of Motown as a label and also Marvin Gaye’s 80th Birthday (April 2).

While the tracks have been issued on various collections and deluxe editions, this is the first time they have been placed in their proper context. In addition to context, You’re The Man was the album that was proposed to follow-up the monumental What’s Going On, and it contains all of Marvin’s solo and non-soundtrack recordings from 1972 (his next two albums in quick succession: Trouble Man and Let’s Get It On).

Does any store/site in the UK actually have the vinyl copy in stock?

Not at work at the moment but I thought it was due out in UK this Friday...

My mistake. Released 29/03/19 but now OOS at Universal. I've asked the rep if they're expecting more stock and and will update on here accordingly.

Don’t think any of those options are in the UK, the prime is a month to get delivered

Amazon are offering 90 days of Music Unlimited free with the purchase of a CD or record.  There's a good chance the album will be available to download, along with plenty of other stuff, until the real thing arrives.

Bonjour Chalky

Trust you well. I picked it up on vinyl in Rough Trade in Bristol last week and they had multiple copies in...might be worth giving them a shout/try.

Not down there this week as would have nipped in for you.

Cheers

I believe a pressing error was identified with duplicates of the same tracks on both sides, or something like that. Was mentioned by Laurence on the Solar's Soul Brother show on Sunday.

Update from Universal rep re Marvin Gaye LP:

This was a limited run but they have decided to “re-press” (due to some faulties)  ….this will take around 5/6 weeks.

Yes all good here. Just seen the comments about a pressing fault - I haven't played it all the way through yet so hope it's not a dud!

Not sure if you could ring the Bristol Shop 0117 929 0383 and see if they will do order over phone...unless all stock has been pulled🙂

Paul at Bristol was not aware of problem and has NO copies (we don't want him pestered) :)

Double album and most of the ones that were sent out had duplicate copies of the same two sides. No presing fault, an operational mess up. It's supposedly coming out again...but if you got one now would hang on until that actually happens.

Rick is this the first release that has had problems though, with the one side doubled up in error
