Tommy Brown (blues singer) R I P

Mock crying on this 1951 effort from him ....

He seems to have re-cut the song for Dot in 1960 (unless the guys who put the date on the above were out by 9 years).

I met Tommy Brown when he played at the Rhythm Riot at Camber sands some years ago. He was very open, humble and full on energy and enthusiasm for the music and about the 'old days'. I spoke with him for quite sometime as I was stalling out and managed to see the soundcheck session. For me his finest moment is the intense and atmospheric blues burner 'Southern Women' cut for United in 1954 but the two sided jump blues offering of 'Atlanta Boogie' and 'The House Near The Railroad Track' issued on the Savoy subsiduary Acorn records (also issued on Regent) in 1949 should also be recommended as it is a masterpiece of the genre. RIP Tommy Brown.

I saw Tommy Brown at the same Rhythm Riot in November 2002.  A remarkable man with a great (albeit dry) sense of humour, and it was a pleasure to have seen him perform live.  RIP 'Little' Tommy.
