Sandy Barber - I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping (On My Own) Remixes - Pre-Order magazine cover

Out September, now avail on pre-release...

SANDY BARBER - I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping (On My Own) Remixes

PRE-ORDER ITEM : Released September 30th, 2022. The 12″ Vinyl will be shipped just before the official release date. Please note, any orders containing pre-order items won’t be shipped until all items are available, so please order this item separately to avoid delays.

A soul filled Disco gem from the 1978 album ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’, re-issued as a Deluxe album by BBE in 2012, ‘I Think I’ll Do Some Stepping On My Own’ is one of those tracks that combines an infectious melody with a stunning vocal performance. Therefore it takes remixers with real vision to breathe even more life into a track that is already jampacked full of it and with these two tracks both John Morales and OPOLOPO have shown their respective visions.

The OPOLOPO Rework kicks off with a tough as they come bassline of fluid funk groove that underpins the aforementioned melody punctuated with percussive piano and builds up as a springboard for Sandy’s amazing vocal performance. John Morales’ mix emphasises the beautiful string arrangements to create the space for that voice to soar over percussion led breaks.

If you think you recognise Sandra Barber’s voice then you absolutely do through her vocal performances on the massive hit that was Rare Pleasure’s ‘let me Down Easy’ from 1976 and the Deep Dish produced pair of mid-90s House hits ‘Make The World Go Round’ and ‘Ain’t No Need To Hide’.

A New York City native, Sandy Barber has worked with legendary producers such as David Jordan, Deep Dish, and Leroy Butler as well as being remixed by OPOLOPO, John Morales, Roger Sanchez, and Al Kent.

Mines never arrived - will have to chase

Why does it take a modern day remix to get folk interested in a track from 1978?  or even 2012 on the Jap CD?

Anyway it has sold out on their site, Fish has copies at First experience for £18 and copies on ebay for £20, leave the greedy barstewards on discogs alone.

BBE Music have just advised me there’s a back log at their end due to the postal strike and should be with me next week .

Opolopo mix a particularly good example of a remix / rework though - taken a great tune and arguably improved it, compared with something like the Javi Frias 'Hard edge and paint' Pages remix which to me just seems a crude cut and paste job

That maybe true but the remix has been out there for some time along with others but it takes a vinyl release to get many interested.  The original take is a good record in its own right.

Correct mate, but you're wasting your time.  The irony is, if you wait for vinyl on most new releases, and then think you're hip, when it's been played for years since release on a d/l...............

Yep, think they are upfront Djs when in reality they are catching up.  The reissue Cds and download were far better value as well.

Remember you playing it as a new release Mark - think that's where I first heard it, probably at Cleethorpes

I think this was probably the first time I played it Chris, and I'm guessing it was hot off the press at the time.  I will look at the release date on Traxsource, which is where I found it as a new release.

For what it’s worth 🤣

Guess that would have been the 10’’ single sided promo from BBE .  Only 10 or was it 20 produced ?

Got ya, couple of other remixes from 2011, John Morales and Al Kent.  Certainly took its time to arrive this track though.

Interesting still demand for it really - as someone else said higher up the thread it has been hammered in recent years, but first time readily available on vinyl I guess
