R.i.p. Marvin Junior - The Mighty Mighty Dells

R.i.p. Marvin Junior - The Mighty Mighty Dells magazine cover

Have just got word that Marvin Junior passed away this afternoon.

We have known for a while that he was ill.

Our sympathies to all his family and friends.

One of the greatest voices in Soul Music.

A great loss to us all.

Marvin died from kidney failure and had a weak heart, his son Marvin Junior Jr. says his father died surrounded by family in his home in Harvey around 3:15 pm on Wednesday afternoon.

He leaves such an incredible legacy.

R.I.P Marvin Junior.

Yes, unquestionably one of the greatest voices in Soul Music.

And the Dells were, in my humble opinion,  the greatest vocal group in Soul Music history bar none, and that includes the Temptations, Four Tops, Impressions, Isleys etc.

Very sad to hear this. One of the greatest groups ever with such a deep catalogue !

Gutted, but as Sean stated we knew he was very poorly, still don't make it any easier, The Dells are the greatest vocal group ever, very versatile, but, for me when they got down and deep they were an unmoveable force, Teddy Pendergrass said in his book the first time he heard Marvin Junior live his voice shook the building, testament itself from one of the genuine greats

Knowing he was ill, I was dreading waking up to this news one day.

An incredible vocal talent, the like of which is extremely unlikely to be surpassed.

Sympathy to his family and friends, what a sad day for our music.

In hindsight, had I needed to I would have paid a King's ransome to witness them at Trentham.

You win some, you lose some; I've lost and I've learned

It's just that I'm so lonely with no place to turn
And here at the end, I find...the love we had stays on my mind

I never, never will forget you

Goodbye Marvin Junior
