Kenb 1,412 Posted August 16, 2018 R.I.P. Aretha (another star that it's enough to know her Christian name to know who is being spoken about) my favourite.
Soulkeith 0 Posted August 16, 2018 Just Played "Don't let me lose this dream" it does not get any better. Sleep tight & thanks for the memories Keith
Smudger 1,396 Posted August 16, 2018 This is a really sad day, over the years I have listened to Aretha in fact hers was one of the first albums I bought .So many great tunes ,I am on holiday so cannot post a song up , Done now there are far too many to mention but Angel always does it for me. An angel has passed RIP Aretha
Thinksmart 526 Posted August 16, 2018 Music 'Legend' is thrown around too readily. Aretha is. Not just the obvious Atlantic songbook, there is so much before and after too. I've been buying a lesser Aretha album a month for the past year and been delighted at how much great music there is. Imagine the harmonies now the sisters can sing together again!
Simsy 720 Posted August 16, 2018 R.I.P Aretha. A unique soul talent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XESo86WgOrE
Rick Scott 1,499 Posted August 16, 2018 We all said a little prayer for you, but all was in vain, i'm gutted x sleep well, you will be ever in our Hearts and Soul, 'Aretha "Soul Queen" Franklin'
Soulfinger 574 Posted August 16, 2018 RIP Aretha. The greatest female soul singer of all time. My greatest regret is never having seen her sing live.
Douglaschip 305 Posted August 16, 2018 RIP Aretha - from her early Columbia output to brilliant Atlantic - a huge catalogue of memories. Just played her version of 'Oh no not my baby' - Rest easy.
Kptownie 38 Posted August 16, 2018 RIP. Aretha The Queen of soul. Thank you for so many memories, your songs have touched so many people. Difficult to pick a favorite, but I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER seems appropriate. RIP You will be in many peoples prayers & thoughts Respect.
6T's Mojoman 29 Posted August 16, 2018 R.I.P. Aretha, someone who had more talent in her little finger than most of today's so called singers, the Queen of Soul will be sadly missed, but has left a wonderful legacy to us all.

R.I.P. Again, well said Dave. I wanted to add that for me personally, the first time I heard Aretha's 'Lady Soul' lp in the mid 80's I was totally blown away by how amazing her voice was and the fantastic arrangements of the tracks. I'd heard her songs on the radio but I didn't listen to much Soul back then,I was into other things, but that album in particular was a real turning point for me. Her music also represents things I feel strongly about in the world of music, such as the importance of church music/gospel in the development of soul music - put simply, its where so many artists learnt to 'sing it like they mean it'. That and music as a conduit for bringing people together. I listened to 'Lady Soul' very recently and I'm happy to say it still gives me the chills..the record is a true triumph of artistry. Obviously her output is vast, so much good stuff for people to listen to and discover and as much as her work oozes Soul there's actually little bits of country, rock, pop and all sorts in there. Proving as ever that genres mean nothing really and good music is simply good music.
Winsford Soul 15,963 Posted August 16, 2018 One of Aretha,s lesser known but still great records from her time at Arista. Steve
Soulman58 1,446 Posted August 16, 2018 We all new it was likely to happen but it still hits. This is a clip of Aretha with the Tops, which always makes me smile and showcases two of the greatest voices of all time.

Drinamyl nights 2 Posted August 16, 2018 Today, we had to say goodbye to the No.1 lady of soul. I'm sure that many of us have shed a few tears at the news of her passing, as her words and music have meant and said so much to us over the decades. But I know, once the sadness and loss of our beloved Aretha eases, her legacy of tunes will bring joy to our hearts for the rest of our lives. It's time for you to show the celestial choir what they've been missing. Thank you for the sweet Soul music and the trail you blazed. R.E.S.P.E.C.T XXX
