Can't actually find the book on the site though. Have checked the "books" link at the bottom of the left-hand nav column, but it's not listed there. Is there an actual page for it?

the flyer does have ordering info via email/phone along with paypal details

So let me get this right.
It's not available until September but you have to pay for it now in April?
Also will there be a paperback that's a bit cheaper?

If you want a signed hard back deluxe  copy it's available for pre order now. But it doesn't get published until September.

Just ordered and paid for  my copy because this version will probably sell out.  Another  one to add to the collection.

I am looking forward to this book immensely that period from late 78 till 81 was with out doubt a golden period for rare soul music. George Kirby Paris Moses Dillard Al Williams Billy Hambrick etc , it will be hopefully a wonderful insight into a period that gave the rare soul scene a different flavour.

Sorry to appear to go off the subject but it is actually related. Did Searling play Marvin Gaye Love Starved Heart at Wigan or was it a Stafford play ?

Wigan tune for RS.

I thought it had already been acknowledged that Love Starved Heart wasn't a Wigan record after it was featured in the film Northern Soul. The conclusion was that although the film was set in 1974 (I think), the director had used the track for artistic licensing reasons.

I think that was more to do with the timeline of the tunes at Wigan rather than it not actually being played there at all, always under the impression it was a late Wigan spin.

LSH turned up in the UK via Dave Withers and Rod, alongside Suspicion / It's Too Late / Forever In My Heart. Dave cut those four on to acetates for me at the time and it must have been about 1982 or even touching 83.

Update - Seems it was 81 so, yes it could have been a very late Wigan spin

It was 81 when they turned up.  Suspicion etc first got aired in the backroom of a SASofGB niter in Manchester, October that year.  Stafford when they were unleased fully by Dave. Must have been late on at Wigan when LSH got played by Richard.

Agree LSH was a late Wigan spin for Richard

Although recorded in 1966, i thought this only turned up in the tape vaults of Motown in 1980.

I've obviously been a sleep.

Ok, That makes sense. So it is possible LSH was first played a little earlier than Oct 81, and Richard could/would have played it prior to the Sept 81 finale.

Actually, as I type this, I've just had a brain flash of hearing 'Come On Back To Me Baby' (FIMH from the same batch), while I was in the record bar at Wigan turning to the nearest person, and asking "what's this?" It may have been one of the very last events at Wigan in 81.

Is Mr Searling a member on here?

Just been thinking that myself,if he is it would be good to get the answer on LSH direct from Richard himself.

Chalky.  Had this conversation with  Keith Brady ( R.I.P ) in the  90,s when it went massive and he did mention that it was a Casino tune .

That's more than good enough for me.

Trust your well mate .

All a bit hazy now.

Pretty sure I did an acetate for Richard of Originals/Marvin Gaye but exact time escapes me.

He might remember when.

I know Dave aint sure of sequence of events either.

I'm guessing very very end of Wigan then.

Been looking forward to this one for a few years now. I emailed something to Richard ages ago and he said a book was in the offing. Easily my best DJ from back in the day - the quality of his 60's and modern sets, and how he mixed them together,  was something I'll never forget.

So has the release date been delayed by a month because the pre-order target hasn't been reached?

Not at all, not sure where you would get that idea from?  It was additions to the manuscript last minute and printer delays I believe.

Thanks for setting the record straight, but 5 months from taking pre-orders until release seems a long time to me.

As far as I was aware it was always going to be September, Richard was still writing it I think when it was announced, more and more info kept coming to light that needed adding.  That is how I saw it but hopefully Richard might see this and you get it from the horses mouth as they say.

Considering Anglo American are the sole supplier of this book, and have already taken full payment including postage for pre-orders, the least I would expect as a paying customer is notification that the release date has slipped by a month.  It's just good customer relations.  I shouldn't have to find out about it on an online forum.

From Anglo American email ladt week....

The Richard Searling book offer extended through October.

A delay in the printers means that the LIMITED EDITION 'Setting The Record Straight' epic account of Wigan, Va-Va's and other venues is running a little late. The pre-order price will remain at £29.99 including post. Should any copies remain of the hardback after October, the price will increase to £34.99 plus post as per the recommended retail price.
All pre-order hardback copies are signed and individually numbered.
