release notes clip...

"The collected works of the Flint, Michigan soul singer/songwriter and his band. Contains the crossover masterpiece "It's A Bad Feeling" and entries by Hunts Determination Band, 21st Generations, Reggie and Vann and Brilliance. Presented as a CD and 2LP. Worldwide street date March 27th.

Although Flint, Michigan's Regional Garland toiled in regional obscurity for years, he managed to pen, sing and produce a series of 1970s soul songs that have been appreciated for decades in various musical circles around the world. Some - like The Perfections' "Girl, You Better Hurry" and the 21st Generations' "I Need Love" - have been lionized by the soul-collecting cognoscenti. Others - such as Mixed Sugar's "It's A Bad Feeling" and "Fifteen Ain't Young No More" - were played in the hallowed halls of Northern Soul Parthenon Wiggan Casino in the mid-'70s and helped anchor the 80s Modern Soul scene.

Much of the audio contained on Mixed Sugar: The Complete Works, 1970-1987 came from master tapes and is previously unreleased. CD comes with a 32 page booklet; 2LP comes with a 16 page booklet. Both includes a wealth of photos and ephemera and extensive liner notes by Ronnie Reese and Egon.

Below, we're offering a download of Mixed Sugar's "It's A Bad Feeling." This song will also appear on our forthcoming Soul Cal anthology, scheduled for early April 2012.

Original sessions produced by Regional Garland and others.

This compilation produced, annotated and researched by Egon

Liner notes by Ronnie Reese, edited by Egon.

sick photo. i knew they had the rights to this stuff, happy to get a CD of it. Regional Garland's productions were always so awesome, even those Brilliance records in the 80s.

Looks great!

By the way, does anyone know what Regional Garland's links were to "It's You For Me" by Carla Whitney? Has got the exact same backing track as 21st Generations "I Need Love", but there is no mention of Garland anywhere on the Carla Whitney 45. :g:

choker campbell produced both records. he might have written the music and arrangements too, or he might have just reused the backing track without crediting the music songwriter

That's what I suspect happened as well. Perhaps Campbell "forgot" who wrote the original music and just went ahead with it... Oh well!

Don't worry Bob, Reggie's got a lot less hair on show on the cover of his latest gospel cd.

To answer your questions on why the backing track on Carla Whitney album is the same as the one on my I need love record. Is it was used later without my knowledge and without crediting me for the writng and arranging of the music. My music is copyrighted and I own the copyright to it. Also I need love came out first. Didnt know this had happened untill now when I seen it posted here. Thanks for letting me know. Hope you all enjoy my songs!

Hi Regional. I'm a big fan of pretty much all of your productions, I really appreciate the music you wrote. "girl you better hurry" is one of my favorite records of all time. I'm also helping to edit a book called Soul Harmony Singles that lists soul records by vocal group and tries to list the lineup of the group, etc.

Do you know the lineup of the following groups and if members sang in any other groups that recorded:

Perfections on Tri-City

Brilliance

Mahana

21st generations

Are the perfections on tri-city the same group as on SVR and Drumhead?

Thanks in advance for any info. Also, if you were involved with other group productions that were released on 45, any info would be appreciated.

thanks,

Bob

Hi Regional

Hope the Mixed Sugar album goes well for you, as well as your new "Unity" gospel album.

The "You Died On The Cross For Me" track has quite a contempary feel to it.

It was about a year ago when I spoke with you last. It's was when I was interviewing the Rev Sammy Solo

Soul Source is supposed to be about sharing knowledge and information, not having to pay for it.

yeah, but I asked for a lot of information, not just one simple question, and if someone did a bunch of original research to write up the liner notes I have no problem getting the info from there. I was going to buy the CD anyways. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with plugging the cd and I hope people buy it, but I just didn't like the insinuation.

You wouldn't ask me to buy something off you if I asked you what the line up of a band was, would you?

no, but I might if you asked for the lineup and other relationships between four groups and someone had spent time researching, writing, and documenting it in a CD. Either way, not worth arguing about, I'm glad Regional is able to get some exposure for his excellent productions, really some of my favorite detroit tracks.

I'd be a millionaire if I got paid for every bit of information I've given people on here and on PM.

But as you say, not worth arguing about.
