pointless traveling to a record shop as last year the kent and trojan releases were on the net within hours.

Anyone after some of the Soul (or other styles) of RSD releases, Soul Brother in Putney (1 Keswick Rd, SW15 2HL) will have a bunch of stuff...some of it ultra limited (they've got single copies of some of these - pot luck what arrives)

Does anyone know if Kent have any records specifically released for RSD?

A Clarence Carter EP with 3 unreleased including his version of George Jackson's I Found What I Wanted (which I think is really good)

and a 5 single Fame boxset with 4 repro's of 60's classics such as James Barnet and 2 unreleased sides of the same tune one boy/one girl (I think)

Pressed for record store day, this will however also be available via the Simply Soul stall/mail order, but as it will be limited and most will go to shops, it might be wise not to rely on getting one too much further down the line!!

I wasn't going to comment on RSD Paul but since you mention this... I went down to 'Sound It Out' in Stockton yesterday (the official RSD day shop for 2011), there was a queue outside and they were letting people in as others left - after about 15 mins the owner came out and asked what people were after - I asked after this box set and the Clarence Carter EP- no Fame box and he had sold the CC. So I left.

Now I thought the idea of the exercise was to support your local shop, however, I log onto ebay today and what do you find , over 2000 items listed https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=record+store+day+2012 including the one you mention

So instead of having a pleasant day buying records for a change , I'm left frustrated. Sadly, like everything else it has just turned into a money making racket !!

I agree, Mike. In fact we discussed this last year.

RSD needs to be serious as a scheme for promoting music to fans via record stores and not an excuse for some people to instantly exploit people via ebay after leaving customers disappointed in record stores - or outside in the rain after travelling and standing in queues for hours.

People go home frustrated and then get exploited with inflated prices on ebay.

Last year I suggested RSD should become RSW for Record Store Week. I think that would work better.

I thought about doing a single for RSD this year but I decided against it.

Yes agreed. The idea of shops not knowing if they'll get a copy of something or not is ridiculous. We don't have a local record shop anyway.

the 100 club anniversary singles pisses me off - two days after the event you see the Sales section - 'got a spare copy - £50' - very nice, why not give it to someone then?

Interesting to see some of these comments, which I've only just caught up with, but have had similar thoughts myself.

Yep, buy 2, sell one for an inflated price while some poor bugger missed out on RSD, and probably AFTER paying a bus or train fare/petrol to get there to support the shop/day.

Shame when peoples hobbies become a money making excercise...........isn't it nice to get away from the money making aspect of the everyday rat-race when it's something you enjoy.

Of course, it's not just confined to RSD and new releases.........you could be looking for a 7" on eBay which you would love to own and cherish, and some part-time wheeler and dealer snags it and it's then on a list for a higher price!

I'm not that naive that I think this would ever be any different, and I wouldn't say that I've NEVER done something like it myself, because I have. Not very often though, as I don't go out of my way to do so for the reasons outlined above. As a collector, I know how it feels!

I've sold the Ace/Kent Fame Box set and Clarence Carter EP to my customers this week after buying a few copies of left over RSD stock from Kent BUT I sold them at the same price as they were offered in the shops! So not everyone is out to make an instant killing?

The box sets have gone and i've a couple of the Clarence Carter EP's left. I reckon the CC EP will rise in value as the months roll on cos once the track 'I found what I wanted' gets a few spins, demand for it will rocket (imho)?

And fair play to you mate! In this instance it's a good thing because it makes them available WITHOUT having to go out of your way to get one from a shop on the day if there's not one halway convenient for you. Of course, I realise that some could say that this defeats the whole idea of RSD!!

Nothing's ever black and white though is it..............except balck and white perhaps!!

Yes and if this carries on, how long before a dealer who gets stock holds them back, rather doing what the Honest Johns on here have done and make them available day one?

I guess any surplus (like in this case) can be sold to those of us that live nowhere near a quality record shop via t'internet and when they've gone, they've gone BUT (as in the case of 100 Club 45's etc) some folks will always 'get two' to sell on later, nature of the beast ain't it!

The trouble with that Steve is the logistics of getting a limited run distributed to the shops and suppliers where it is wanted. Example is Charles Bradley which I mentioned the other day on another thread, none came into Crazy Beat, but HMV have so many they were selling them on line......a bit of a bollox really!

I went about an hour before closing and walked in on a couple of guys from a local group playing unplugged (Except that they were playing plugged into a PA, I never understood that...) so where I thought I'd be able to browse freely I was all the time shoving my way through people who didn't want me getting in their way. In the end I pushed my way to the counter and just asked for the first item I focussed on on my list. I guess it was the capital letters that caught my eye, I asked for Numero's 'WTNG Solid Bronze'. They had it on CD but not vinyl.

Bah. I bought the CD and ordered the vinyl, just hope I can sell the CD if the vinyl comes... I'm going to call in maybe Friday or Saturday to see if they have any of the other stuff I wanted.

On the lighter side, it's good to see that a lot of the people offering RSD stuff at inflated prices on Ebay seem to have got stuck with it.

Yep now selling for around £50 a go after only two weeks and still rising, 500 hand numbered issued to record shops all over the world (if you check out where they are being offered from).Was available on download and original mix on CD .The opolopo mix causing a stir on modern soul venue dancefloors but the original is great also.
