Dave Thorley Set One Stafford Modern

Paul Simpson Connection - Use Me Lose Me - Rams Horn

I love this song! Never heard it played out.

I've only just discovered this thread and it will keep me busy for some time. Chalky, your recent Mixcloud uploads don't seem to be downloadable. Is that right?

Nice to hear Kev's dulcet tones, this must be from the old Hott Waxx Soul nights @ Newton Le Willows Cricket Club about 83/84, Sam was a regular guest at that time - fantastic to hear it as I didn't know any recordings existed.

I have loads of recordings from The Carlton, Smiths etc but none from the CC, I'll tell the old dog, he'l be made up.

Thanks for posting 'em

It wasn't one if the Stafford nighters run by Dave Thorley, another promotion apparently, not many here either by the sounds of it.

How are you digitising the cassettes Chalky?

I have a full collection of the old cassette soul magazine 'Soul On Sound' from the early 80's here that should be put online - great interviews, quaint adverts (dinnertime disco's etc), North and South round ups

Been given some great live recordins by John

Trewartha. He was better known as John from Haverhill so hopefully some of you will remember him?

Anyway the quality is great for these recordings from Stafford and Leicester (Oddfellows).

The first couple are Gary Rusbbrooke and Dave Evison at Stafford.

Really good recordings Barry. Many straight from the systems, one or two taken near the speakers.

I've some of Keb and Adam from Leicester later.

If anyone has any more live recordings from Stafford or Leicester I would love to listen?

Two more recordings this time from Leicester's Nottingham Oddfellows Club.

The first features Adam all the way through (I think). The second Adam, then I think it is Tony Clayton briefly and Keb Darge.

Once again many thanks to John Trewartha (John from Haverhill) for this recording.

Great stuff Chalky haven't heard some of these since they were played in the day. The 'On The Avenue' track was originally thought to be Tommy Good. I take it at some point there has been firmer clarification of the artists?

The instrumental of this track is credited to R.Dean Taylor on the original acetate , so the track must have been destined for him at some point I guess ?

Wow! Just spent a very enjoyable several hours listening to those live tapes. Next best thing to actually being there. Thanks for posting them Chalky - they're superb!

Mike

It's all

thanks to John Trewartha (John from Haverhill). He's the one who supplied them. I've a couple more to do yet when I get time, Keb at Leicester in 1985 and Dave T and Pat Brady at Stafford in what looks like 1983.

Thanks Mr Chalky!

Bloody hell - forgot all about that Love Is Serious Business cover - I think. Who was that? Was it Dave playing that or Pat - yep it's Pat I think. Sorry, mate, so many questions!

Cheers

I'm not sure mate, I've only done track list so far for he first 45 minutes or so. Where in the file is it, time wise?

It's at about 56.40 - I think its Pat sounds like him and his set from back then. Haven't a clue about the version of Alfie Davidson but I think Im starting to remember it existed.

I can vaguely remember the record but can't remember who it is.

I think it is Dave T playing at this point, sure he starts off where I stopped with the track listing.

I've asked dave what it is, will get back when he answers.

Cheers mate. It's funny how our memory deceives us - I thought it sounded like Pat's voice with Dave's records. LOL

Good work Chalky...appreciated

Just flicking through the Gary Rushbrooke set...the one you have listed as 'Soulmates - Sockin Soul' (track #20) is actually the Green Grunchons All Stars, 'Guys & Gals Bounce' on Boogaloo'...its the instrumental of 'Karate Boogaloo'.

:hatsoff2:
