New Diggin Deep 45 - Exceptions & Milton Bennett - Feb 14th Release magazine cover

Latest news from Diggin' Deep Records, read and listen below...

ANNOUNCING DIGGIN’ DEEP RECORDS NEWEST 45!
A VALENTINE’S SPECIAL!

PRE ORDER NOW FOR 14th FEB 2020
Can You Dig It?

DD 0010A The Exceptions ‘So Much in Love’
DD 0010B Milton Bennett ‘I’m Ready’

It is with great pleasure that we announce the latest Diggin’ Deep 45 which will be available for you to pre-order before the Valentine’s Day Release Date.
Both these tracks are from the GWP production team out of New York, which started in 1969 by Jerry Purcell. These sides are up there with anything the GWP label put out on vinyl during its three-year tenure:

THE EXCEPTIONS - SO MUCH IN LOVE (Bennie Gordon, Chuck Dean)
The Exceptions were a group that Benny Gordon brought to GWP Records. Not related to others of the same name, this unknown group can certainly sing and they deliver a stunning performance here on a song which Benny co-wrote and recorded himself on his own Estill Records. It is an easy-going group soul number that has been well received by the Low Rider and Sweet Soul community of South Los Angeles, via advance copies in the hands of Ruben Molina and Arlene Sepulveda (Soulera 5150). It’s a beautifully crafted love song timed for release on Valentines day 2020.

MILTON BENNETT – I’M READY (Unknown)
Though he is best remembered for his song writing, including seminal works such as ‘Go Now’, ‘Showdown’ and Kenny Carter’s ‘Don’t Go’, Milton Bennett was also a very good singer. Northern Soul fans will be very familiar with his ‘What’s One More Lie’ and here we have another traditional ‘old school’ uptempo dancer that could do some serious damage on that scene. Quite why this fabulous record remained in-the-can is a mystery, but here it is now, some 50 years since its recording.

Please take a few minutes to listen to the promotional video. We hope you’ll agree, this great double-header is a 45 that every Soul fan will want to have in their collection.
Both sides are now available on a beautifully mastered 45.

DD0010 collector’s release is a limited pressing @ just £12 each plus postage and packing.
Avoid Disappointment. Pre-order ON WEBSITE ONLY now, while stocks last

Has anyone received their order for this 45 ?? Anyone heard of any problems resulting in a late despatch ??

As said previously things can go wrong outside of the control of the label, but it would be nice to be updated if there are issues..

no problems with previous orders and it arrives when it arrives. Have waited for months for previous orders from elsewhere but once you have hands on record only gratitude for those that made it happen and always reluctant to add more stress to others who S stress cup is running over.🎶✊

I'm not so much concerned about it turning up, but when something is advertised as being available from a stated date - and I pre-order, I wouldn't expect NOT to have some sort of heads-up if there was an issue in meeting the dates as detailed.. Or am I expecting too much ???

You wouldn't place an order, say with Amazon for example (other on-line retailers are available..) with a specified date of when to expect it, but then - when you don't receive the expected goods, and receive no correspondence or update,  just sit back and wait until the vendor decides to send it out !! Would you !!

As stated.. Not an issue !! But some sort of statement from the powers that be would be polite.. 😜

Left work early today, in order to get to the sorting office in time.. and confess to playing the Milton Bennett track non-stop for the past hour !! Absolute stunning track and one of the best 'New Old' releases E-V-E-R !!!! Defo a keeper.. That's for sure..

Mine arrived yesterday - two stunning sides. I  actually prefer The Exceptions, but the Milton Bennett is definitely amazing. It seems to have absolutely everything you'd associate with all of the most well loved and respected Wigan biggies.

Morning all.

Please accept my apologies for the Radio Silence on this forum!

I've not been on SS since providing the Pre-Order Press Release info to Mike, a couple of weeks ago.

To give you an idea on timescales, we always try to schedule the records to be with us, at the studio, two weeks before a planned release date.

In this case it was scheduled for 14th Feb to coincide with Valentines day. The discs arrived as planned.

We give priority to all Pre-orders (those placed before the release date) and then spend the Saturday & Sunday after the release date (always a Friday) to pack the discs.

These are then taken to the Post Office on the the Monday and are labelled up by the PO and shipped First Class signed for over the next couple of days.

So if you've only just got your records they're actually right on time! 😊

Hopefully you'll get many years play and pleasure out of these and I tend to agree with you, the Milton Bennett has all the attrubutes of a future Monster!

Thanks for your patience everyone.

There's more in the pipeline!

👍

Sean

Collected mine from local PO depot this morning. They tried to deliver Wednesday and left a card, unfortunately I was in a rush that night and misread the card for another parcel delivered on Wednesday and put it in my paper waste. Remembered last night that I had been expecting this release and went to check the waste. Thank heavens for recycling, card would have been messy had it been thrown out back in the day with general waste!

Looking forward to spinning both sides later at the end of a challenging week!

Fully appreciate the work it takes to get these great records released Sean.

Sean (and others)

Just checked your settings

To keep on top of things soul source wise you could set some of your your 'follows/notifications' to email rather than the notification list

Which mean you would get a email sent automatically (time and such depending on your settings) when someone posted on your article/topics

takes say 30 second thing to sort  and all can be set via

https://www.soul-source.co.uk/notifications/options/

think may be useful

The Exceptions is exactly the reason I bought it, fantastic Group record, will be hard to beat that in the new release of the year for 2020 imo. Early doors I know.

On the same level as the best release for last year, Love, Unity and Virtue, Let love shine on Six Nine Records. Poundsy, who was responsible for the release, along with group member and currently still active, Howard Johnson, sold the limited press from a flat in Newcastle I think, They went quickly, 80% were sold to California collectors where it was originally recorded but never issued in 1976. I think the rest went to mainland Europe, hardly any to UK collectors.
