New 45 - Last Bastion - Lou Pride - Unreleased Version of I'm Com'un Home In The Morning

New 45 - Last Bastion - Lou Pride - Unreleased Version of I'm Com'un Home In The Morning magazine cover

Over last year or so you long time member @Andybellwood has been working on a new label, looking like it's all coming together as we have just had details of the first release for 2022!

A limited release of a previous unreleased version of 'I’m Com’un Home In The Morn’un' recorded all the way back in 2004

Here's the blurb, flyer and can check out the video below...

Sleeve Notes Clip

How this release came about, was that musically, on fire and inspired by words and advice from his friend Curtis Mayfield, veteran Chicago soul/blues vocalist Lou and a backing band, visited David Earl's Severn Record studios, Maryland USA In 2004. There he recorded a treasure trove of soul for the 'Keep on Believing' (Severn Records) cd release, plus remarkably a complete remake of his 1972 Northern Soul classic 45 "I'm com'un home in the morn'un" which was originally released on El Paso (Texas) label, Suemi and now commands in excess of £7k.

In addition to the full length 2004 recording which forms the flip side, the A side (also produced by David Earl) is a new Dj /radio station edit destined to be a dance floor and Northern Soul favourite.

Detour Records in conjunction with Last Bastion Records brings you this Monster Northern Soul release....

Pre-Orders being accepted now for this MUST HAVE 45.

RELEASE DATE IS: FRIDAY 25th FEBRUARY 2022

This is a great tune and done in a way that makes it sound like a new record altogether.

Let's face it, the original is one of our crown jewels.

From Richard , Kev, Ginger & Sean

"A tremendous reworking by Lou of his huge Northern Soul anthem, discovered by John Anderson at Soul Bowl, and made big by the DJs at the Cleethorpes Pier All-Nighter back in 1975" Richard Searling (B E M, Queens Honours List, 2019)

"Lou soulfully rides the groove as if he’s Isaac Hayes auditioning for Blood, Sweat & Tears....Willie Henderson’s All Stars weaved their magic with Lou and discovered a whole new set of fans. A new classic!" Kev Roberts (Wigan Casino/Event Promoter/Radio personality)

"The perfect record for a packed dance floor. From deep in the heart of Texas, one of the greats, still is and for ever" Ray 'Ginger' Taylor (The World's no.1 Northern Soul DJ)

“The 2004 recording packs just as much as the original 1970 release with a added funkier edge and clarity just right for today's dance scene in both northern and modern rooms and without doubt will become a favourite spin at all venues. This tune will guarantee a dance floor avalanche and then continues to whip the crowd up into a frenzy on the dance floor!” Sean Chapman (Northern Soul & Mod DJ and Record dealer - Chapman Records)

Have placed my order, but your site states shipping is end of February 2022. Must admit I'm once more pissed off at yet another record label that takes cash off people, banks it, but won't deliver for ages - and in this case a ridiculous four months!

Oh, and the ordering part of your website flags up on the browser Safari as being unsecure - something you need to be aware of.

Pre order shouldn't be offered until production done and records on their way, its getting to be a bit silly now

And if 43 copies of a supposed 300 limited run have already been sold and are "flying out" to buyers ahead of that Feb 2022 date, why not just shift them now instead of making people wait for something like 120 days?

I do appreciate that for small labels the initial outlay can be considerable, and I likewise appreciate the huge effort that undoubtedly has gone into getting this release out there in the first instance (like so many other labels in these musically bountiful times), but please - all of you label owners out there reading this – don't keep take us for mugs.

Not wishing to divert the focus too far away from the music being offered - this unreleased and reworked version of that evergreen monster classic is a mighty fine thing!

Kudos to all involved.

Russ , all very disheartening to read as the last thing myself  (and retailer/distributor Detour Records) want are any dissatisfied customers. The shipping date is visible before  committing  to pre ordering.

Can you please pm me with your order details and I'm gladly arrange cancellation and a prompt refund for you from Detour Records.

The vinyl record supply chain issues are now becoming well known & have been documented  - I have referred to them on The Last Bastion website http://shop.detourrecords.co.uk/epages/es785745.mobile/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es785745/Categories/Last_Bastion_Records/Latest_News

For the Lou Pride 45 , the manufacturing plant order was placed many months ago and we had an October availability date which then slipped and slipped ...

February 2020 looks like being the worst case scenario and Detour Records and myself would rather under promise hence the February date advertised.

As to the 'Safari ' browser issue with the Detour Records sales site , not sure what the issue is as all payments are secure via PayPal.  Can you please contact Dizzy @ Detour so he can fully understand the issue and resolve.

Andy, I'm not after a refund. I'm just dissatisfied that so many small record labels continue to expect customers to buy on 'pre-order'. If X% can be pressed in advance, then get them all done - especially when pressing plants are so in demand and the run is only 300 copies. Given how difficult it is to get time with the pressing plants, not doing such a short run is an opportunity missed.

This 'pre-order' nonsense - from all the labels that operate in this way – shows buyers no respect.

As for the Detour Records site and its lack of security, just pass on the word, please. Presuming the webmaster/hosting company involved know their stuff, they'll understand.

Again - great music, and looking forward to getting my order. However, the 'pre-order' business model – offered by so many small labels these days – sucks.

As you say Andy delays are well documented in the pressing plants, one reason why pre orders should be held back a little more by all labels not just yours until something more definite from the plants?  I wish you and all labels success but with ao many releases, and there are a lot lately, available to pre order it is becoming hard to keep track of it all.

Some of the releases are getting hammered everywhere as well and they don't feel much like a new release when you actually get the 45.

Anyway back to the music.

Personally Andy ,had the cd album since its release , purchased more then and sent them to mates who all agreed at the time , great version, (still have it by the way) why has it not been released until now , Lou toured the UK , We saw him in Whitstable of all places so this version must have been out there , my point , most of our vinyl collectables 1960+ this one 2004 , 120 days or so more or possibly less cheers Andy

Hi Dave , yes on the face of it doesn't make much sense why it wasn't a vinyl release previously and /or to co incide with Lou's UK etc tour.

Perhaps down to Severn Records being a label that successfully focuses on cd releases for their artistes  rather than vinyl Lps & 45s ?

Severn Records btw were great to deal with so Last Bastion Records could exclusively licence and in addition to the longer  version (which appeared on the 2005 cd)  which is the 45 B side , provided the previously unreleased in any format , shorter A side .

Getting in and dated with requests to buy as a pre releasepurchase even though its clearly shown as 'sold out'. (There will be no repress).

Sorry to disapoint but every one of the ltd 300 were made available.  However a couple of retailers did pre order just a few wholesale which we honoured  before we declined further wholesale requests, so all I can suggest is keep your eyes peeled end of Feb onwards .

Just received my copy of Lou Pride 2004 recording of 'Comun' Home' - a completely fresh take on a classic and in an informative picture sleeve, it's a real collectors' item! Going to spin it tonight at The Harrogate Soul Lounge - possibly its first public airing on an original IMG_4473.thumb.JPG.6328ed5bedfb57b9a1de71c1a2a44000.JPGvinyl release. Great work Andy Bellwood - thanks!

Mine just docked. Labels reversed but hey-ho!

A magnificent reworking of a time honoured NS classic. Lots have tried prior to this with other tunes, but Lou & Co really hit the spot. Many congratulations to all involved in this project.
