Flint, Michigan, a majority Black town just 66 miles northwest of Motown, caught attention in 2014 for its water lead contamination crisis being neglected by city and state officials. But out of challenging circumstances, arises the "remedy"!
Today's Southern Soul, is a distinct modern take on R&B embraced by grown and sexy folks from the Black community in the Deep South. Although Northern boy Napoleon, didn’t quite get the best of reviews from Daddy B Nice's SouthernSoulRNB.com for his Southern Soul with a Twist Vol. 2 Compilation (2017). But just as Napoleon said when he responded in a letter to Daddy B Nice, I too "must respectfully disagree". His titles "What Don’t Kill Me", "Get Together One More Time", and "Real Love" embody authenticity of the Soul expression.
Napoleon Demps quietly released a Funk title for Daptone Records titled, "Norma Jean" during the pandemic (2020) but remained on the shelf during the exploding Soul scene catapulted by the Raza.
Now cutting records for IMG, Soul brotha Napoleon Demps can now be embraced by a larger than life audience that is is obsessed with heart felt Soul ballads while supported by killer production the Raza and record collectors everywhere desire!
"Remedy" is a firme rola accompanied by a music video about gaming a female that's stuck with a man that, "won't treat you right, he wanna fuss and fight, he makes you cry, baby that ain't right, you sit by your phone, but you're still alone, your heart needs a new home... you know I got the remedy!"
And let's just say, as far as the new thriving scene of rolas pressed on wax is concerned, Mr. Demp's first name reigns true! Shaoooooh!
