One of the greatest tracks ever laid down was "Call Me Tomorrow" in my opinion.

Also love "Loving You Is Mellow". I was playing an unissued take by the Aristocrats out a few years ago.

R&B Singer Major Harris Passed Away

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Major Harris, a former member of the ‘‘Philadelphia sound’’ soul group the Delfonics and singer of the 1975 hit ‘‘Love Won’t Let Me Wait,’’ has died in Richmond. He was 65.

His sister, Catherine Thomas, told The Associated Press that Harris passed away Friday morning from congestive heart and lung failure after being rushed to a hospital.

The Richmond native was born Feb. 9, 1947, and grew up in a musical family. His father was a guitarist and his mother led the church choir, Thomas said.

In his teens, Harris was tall for his age and was able to get into clubs to watch musicians perform, she said.

‘‘He always appeared to be older, which gave him a lot of ins to a lot of older places,’’ Thomas joked.

She said he didn’t drink in the clubs back then, but he was pursuing his career. Music, she said, ‘‘was his life.’’

Harris made the rounds with several music groups in the 1960s, including the Charmers, Frankie Lymon’s Teenagers and Nat Turner’s Rebellion.

He then joined the Delfonics in the early 1970s, replacing Randy Cain in the group known for their hits ‘‘La-La (Means I Love You)’’ and ‘‘Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time).’’

Harris left the group in 1974 to pursue a solo career. He recorded a string of R&B singles, including ‘‘Love Won’t Let Me Wait,’’ which peaked at No. 5 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified as a gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America. The song was covered by Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams in 1994 and again by Luther Vandross on his 1988 album ‘‘Any Love.’’

Harris last performed in 2011 at a reunion show with some of the members of the Delfonics, Thomas said.

Sad news indeed one of my fave artists "call me tomorrow" def one of my all time tunes wish i still had the Okeh Demo but his work on Atlantic was brill "Loving you is mellow,Ruby Lee,Sweet Tomorrow,Love wont make me wait - all timeless think ill be digging the albums out again.

This is a clip of The Delfonics on Top Of The Pops doing La La Means I Love You, I think this was a hit as reissue so it's probably around 1970-71, can anyone tell me the line up please, is Major Harris the one in the centre?

Funny how you can be reminded of certain people by certain records,I relaly like the Majors Call me tomorrow ,it often brings an old mate of mine Rug R.I.P to mind,although he used to spend a lot of his time wheeling and dealing for records or d j ing in some cases there were a few records that used to get him up on the floor dancing and the Major was one of them. among a handful of others.

For me - this man was ALL about 'Love Won't Let Me Wait' - sure, his NS stuff was great and his LPs are full of killa cuts but those first coupla bars of 'LWLM Wait' just instantly transport me back to 1974 and listening to this on UK Atlantic 7" at my cousin's house - just one of my strongest Soul memories ever - I was only 10 years old but I can still 'feel' the music on that 7" to this day....I'm happy to have had some of the most memorable times in my young life listening to 'LWLMW' and for that I'm eternally grateful to The Major....rest well, you've earned it sir....xx

Very very sad news. It's Groundhog Day again!

Love won't let me wait..... . What soul and emotion! The haunting and almost psych guitar intro on 'call me tomorrow' is a magnet to a dancefloor for me, absolutely love it.
