Jesse James New Single Out Now and Over Here

Jesse James New Single Out Now and Over Here magazine cover

Hi All

What with Jesse James visiting our shores next week for the Prestatyn Weekender, Soul Junction Records have managed to get an un-released track to us from Jesse.

Jesse James -

Side A - I Gave You Love With An 'A' Plus

Side B - Are You Gonna Leave Me

Words from the website; souljunctionrecords.co.uk

Soul Junction Records have once again dug deep into the Gunsmoke Records inventory to unearth a further un- released 70's gem from the one and only Mr Jesse James.

So at last we present you with the sophisticated Percy Smith and Harvey Scales penned "I Gave You Love With An A Plus" a great old school stepper with a wicked organ break to boot!

The flip side features Jesse's perennial, 60's soul anthem "Are Your Gonna Leave Me" which he recorded for the US Shirley label in 1964.

Both the above songs can be heard live when Jesse returns to the UK after a 25 year absence to perform a full 1 hour show at the Prestatyn Soul Weekender, March 10th - 14th 2011.

Miss him at your peril!

This is a public service announcement, I thank youhatsoff2.gif

I have to say that "I Gave You Love With An A Plus" is right up my street .

For those people that love their old style steppers like Goodie "You and I " , Natures Divine " I Just Can`t Control Myself" ,Chuck Jackson "Through All Times" then this will be an absolutely essential purchase. The London based "Pirate" radio stations of the 80`s and 90`s would have embraced it with open arms as well.

I`ll be giving it a spin this sunday morning on the Soul People show on Solar Radio between 10 and midday if anybody wants to hear it

are you gonna leave me . on shirley .... now f... d

Very strange choice for the flip considering all the work he did on the gunsmoke label that didnt get 45 release??

Suppose if Jesse can get some well earned royalties it makes perfect sense eh

Well done Dave and he team once again!

Nev, I disagree I don't think Shirley release is diminished, far from it, that's still the original, and nothing can change that. It matters not to me if everything got re-issued, because you like me would want the original over anything else. All reissues do in my eyes are to promote the artist and any collector worth his salt would still Chase the original. period.

Hi Brett ......i take your point mate and have edited my post accordingly.

Whats more important is the recognition of the living artist and Jesse James posesses on of the most soulful vocals on the planet ,so distinctive and original.

Am a big fan of his work on the gunsmoke label and would have loved to see "you ought to be here with me " on the flip as im sure this will become a big winner after Jesse delivers it to em at Prestatyn ....

Probably an old topic but to had a bit of interest to the thread and it is relevant .....the Shirley 45 "are you gonna leave me" lends the same backing as a few other well known tunes ..

Which was the original group or artist ??

Apologies accepted alround and the subject now put to bed.

The A- side is the lead song which is a great 70's stepper that Jesse recorded after his time with 20th Century and has remained in the can ever since.

The session was cut with his old friends Percy Smith and Harvey Scales in 1976 and features a great impromptu organ break from Mel Griffin who just got carried away with what was going on around him in the studio at the time.

If you are unlucky enough not to hear it as Prestatyn next week I'm sure you'll catch up with it on You Tube not long after.

The MoonLite Hope 45 was cut in 1983 and was a scheduled lead 45 for a lp of the same name, unfortunately the lp never materialised due to a disagreement between Jesse and a financial backer. The only two tracks cut are on the 45 sadly no unissued lp is lurking out there. This scenario gets explained in more detail in the article ,David Cole did in his "In The Basement " Magazine Issue No 58

Have to say this gets the thumbs up from me,especially the a-side thumbsup.gif .If this had come out back in the day, this would have been huge in London, especially on the rare groove/connoisseur circuit.Even the modern/xover scene would have taken to it.For me Jesse has a awesome/distinctive voice, one of the greats still doing it out there.

Agree with Brett/Nev on the flip(have to own the original) but i would have never known about that track had it not been re-issued so hats off to the chaps at Soul Junction.hatsoff2.gif

Hi Guys

Just a quick reminder that "I Gave You Love With An 'A' Plus" is offically released today, But for those who saw him perform not only " A Plus" and "Are You Gonna Leave" but all is other repertoire at Pestatyn will surely be left with a fantastic memory of a great performer and showman at work.

Dave
