Fred Bridges RIP

Fred Bridges RIP magazine cover

The passing of Fred Bridges last week was sad.

Fred Bridges. a songwriter and a co-founder of the group the Brothers of Soul (this name came about as a result of the riots at the time). He worked to help The Masqueraders, and later road manager for The Four Tops.

David Meikle (soul source member @David Meikle) did a wonderful piece in 2013 “The Fred Bridges Story”

Interesting note to the above - on the Empire copy of 'She broke his heart' it says the writer is Freddie Pride - when I showed this to Fred when the Brothers of Soul performed in Coventry he became very animated and said 'I wrote that'.  - Before I could stop him he took a pen and crossed out Richard Pride on the record and then wrote on the cardboard cover - Fred Bridges BOS - I wrote 'she broke his heart'  Fred.

Class act so I didn't mind him defacing the record :D.

Sorry to read of his passing, I was another of the lucky ones to see them perform in Coventry and I am indebted to all you people posting on this (and so many other threads re so much more); I had no idea he had been so much of a part of sounds I've loved for so long.

I'm guessing Rob Moss's upcoming release of 3 records links around these connections.

Here’s the Masqueraders version from the Love Anonymous album.

Somehow or other Don Hart and James Shorter got credited with the music (40 seconds into the video).

No wonder Fred got pissed with the industry.

Like many people of my age (55) we discovered NS via the 1979 mod revival . I first heard Fred Bridges music on the Grapevine comp LP ‘This is Northern Soul’. This one just blew me away
