Four Tops and The Temptations 2020 UK Tour details

I've never gone to one of these recent concerts by classic acts.  I like recorded music much more than live, and also want to enjoy them thinking of them in their prime I guess. But then I'd like to support the acts and buy what new music is released by Soul acts - but the line ups are sometimes barely recognisable. I'm not talking about people like Richard Street of course, but recently drafted in singers who are grandson era of the originals. What is the line up for this tour across the two acts does anyone know?  I admired The Impressions recently in saying 'that's it' and hopefully enjoying their retirement. 

I see the Isley Brothers are playing in Nottingham in their forthcoming tour, which will be the last I suppose. The tickets start at £50 but they haven't declined in quality musically. There's an interesting looking Funk concert too soon led by Pee Wee Ellis with Tony Remy on guitar.

I was keen to Lamont Dozier before the concerts were cancelled - but I'd want to hear his solo work appreciated in UK most, which I doubt he performs given the mentions a while back (and barely mentions in his new book).

What are people's thoughts about the tours of our classic, but now elderly acts? Do you go?  

See them in the flesh if you can before they are gone. Saw Tops / Temps quite a few years ago in Plymouth and they were class. Pretty sure Jack Ashford was in the backing band with the tambourine and Ron Tysons got plenty of history too. I know some of the older acts cannot kick it like they used to but age catches up with their voices so it is understandable (Candi Staton last year). But like I say when they have gone there will be no second chance of seeing the likes of Roy Ayers, Isley Bros etc (just two at the mo I think but saw them over here in the 90's and they were so pro). Also check out the newer acts. Durand jones looks like a great live act and hopefully these guys and more are the future

I buy a huge amount of new Soul so agree fully on Durand Jones. Roy Ayers, yes indeed - what an incredible artist. My work makes it hard as it is so variable, but I should try with some of these concerts - as you say before it is too late.

One surviving member in each, money making exercise for them as the original singers are no longer here.  more like a tribute act

Saw them at the Fiesta Club (Sheffield)  back in the 70s and loads of other great Acts, That will do for me , They were fabulous too, fond memories of the bus trips over to the Sheffield Fiesta Club, anyone else go? 

All for seeing live acts it is great to see our heroes in the flesh but these two groups now are as Chalky says are no more than a tribute act.

I saw the Four Tops at the Fiesta Club and at The Sheffield City Hall and the Dennis Edward led Temps at the City Hall plus the Ruffin, Kendricks , Edwards gig at the Doncaster Dome who also had David Sea on backing vocals.

I would not pay a tenner to see the current groups.

I was a Sheffield lad and worked the doors at several clubs, at the Fiesta when it opened and saw many great artists, Blue Mink, Beach Boys, Duke Ellington, Cliff?? but by far and away the best group I ever saw was the Four Tops. They return red to the club several times, and to my knowledge, were the only group to do a two week set and filled the club every night to capacity I watched them every night either working or stood at the back on my night off. 
they were 4 down to earth guy’s who only seemed to play cards and got on with each other well talk to us politely and with humour. They cemented my love of Motown which remains till today. We dance 3 times a month to Northern Soul and Motown locally in Warrington area where we see lots of regulars enjoying the music and staying fit.

We, Linda my wife, have seen the current line up of the Tops and Temptations 4 times and they are worth seeing without doubt. We saw Gladys Knight in Bournemouth last year after seeing her as a support of the Tops. we will try to get to Liverpool or Manchester this year, and will look at getting to Nottingham to see the Isley Bothers if we can get tickets.

Ronnie McNeir is doing our Detroit A Go Go event in Leeds on October 24th, so is flying over on October 20th and staying over in Leeds until the 27th

I saw them in Leeds last year, I guess it was  'just OK', but more like a tribute show. The Tops opened with that 'Acapulco' record- oh dear!

All I could think of during the show was just how bloody good Messrs Stubbs, Ruffin & Kendricks were!! Not really the real deal without them.

The Tops musical director/conductor was announced as 'Earl Van Dyke Junior'  to a massive cheer.
