i'm not sure whats the more stupid money....  Bobby paris,  paul anka or william powell

2 of those three I can suffer but I’m with you on Paul Anka, a shocker of a tune. And people still chasing it? After all these years and thousands of better records😩

Over £5k for William Powell..

Its getting ....probable....that a dj carrying a 400 top tune box is now carrying a £1m box.

I hope the appearance money makes it worth the risk.

OVO? That's becoming a rich man's retreat.

All three are fantastic records, especially William Powell,it is a big request at nighters and at

soul nights, just a brilliant tune and very very rare, why do you think it went for so much money?,

always loved by the dancers, including myself.I ask for it regularly and it ALWAYS fills the floor.

Just maybe we know something eh !!!!!!!:shhh:

its very rare,   agreed.    doesnt make it a good record though.     i appreciate your opinion,   but to me it sounds like a 9 year old wrote it.     very linear in structure,  dreadful vocals and a sparse arrangement that was thrown together in a lunch break.

Paul Anka ?     Rubbish !    ( why is this even played at Soul events ?)

   Petula Clark will be commanding 3 figures soon. . . . . . . . . .

I respect your opinion too.

All of the three that you have called rubbish are played regularly at soul nights and nighters, the Soulies and DJ's that dance to them are very knowledgeable  and experienced people who know their stuff.

If you are going to call them rubbish on a public forum, don't be surprised at the onslaught and backlash that you will receive.

We all can't be wrong can we?,

or am I missing something thing !!!!!

When they are played out the floor is

always full, that is why they are put on the decks, dancers records!!!!!.

Lou Edwards, when did this start getting expensive?

About a week ago... The copy Manship auctioned has obviously prompted the panic buyers to spend now they have enough bog-roll and pasta to last them for months.

Am I on the right forum? If this is a Soul Music appreciation forum can I just point out that William Powell is a highly coveted rarity held in high regard by some of the top collectors on the planet, Paul Anka has delivered a handful of Northern classics popular with punters for 45 years and Bobby Paris is one of the few artists who has three records that would grace any book listing a Top 500.

Frankie. I wasnt calling the records . Bobby Paris is one of my all time favourites ( actually met him ) .  William Powell is awesome and Paul Anka is a casino classic . What i commented on was the ridiculous prices paid by people with obviously more money than sense.

Daytripper,   I'm a believer, Satisfaction,  Born to be wild , all have a 4/4 back beat.     so what makes WWGT a Soul record ? NOTHING, thats what .

Paul Anka WWGT is rubbish and that's all there is to it, apart from its now expensive rubbish.

Mediocre pop crap that should have stayed at Wigan Casino.

Then again its not that long ago I heard a so called top dj play Frankie Vallis oh what a night...so it may well be there is a scene for such stuff, its just not my scene.

It is Northern Soul not just Soul,to prove the point you could question whether

Judy Street - What (which i love)     is Soul,it comes under the umbrella of Northern Soul

and it is a Northern Classic Oldie, there are many questionable 'SOUL' records,

some like them, some don't,but most folks accept that they are part of our

Northern Soul Scene without being forceful in their opinions.

It is not rubbish at all,it is your opinion, many knowledgeable people will

argue against your statement and  not all there is to it at all.

The Northern Soul music has many tunes that could be labelled 'Pop',

but they are part of our music and fantastic, our scene has great tunes

from a broad range of Northern Soul Artists, what does your scene offer?.

Wow, Sonny Parker on HITTS for 810 usd, and the Sequins - Try My Love for 786 usd... hmmmm 😕

Flipside of Sonny Parker is "what can I do". A truly wonderful beat ballad and a US low rider classic. That might be the reason for the price? It's not a record that turns up every day.....

It is a good track Benji, be honest I got bored of it eventually and sold mine, don't think I'd get bored of the Sequins as quick, think the Sequins is a rarer 45, so the prices by my reckoning are the wrong way round...not that there is allot in it.  I don't know about the low rider scene, but I am following a few folks on mix cloud now that publish mixes, there are some really great slowies from those folks...

hope your well mate

Yes way over priced Steve, Carolina Soul always seem to get top Dollar for so many of their records on auction, with the huge following they have.

Dr Z was cheap- Wish I hadn't sold mine for £30 but it was 40 years ago!

Paul Anka price! Hahahhahhahha so based on grade  when we get there is now a grand in mint cond! Just shows you that this scene is absolutely fucked! With dealers  aiding and abetting it! Lou Edwards from £50-£75 now approx £400 plus in the space of just a few weeks! This is not market forces but an alternative slant on insider dealing. Thank fuck Im out of it!

Can see the sentiment but don't agree. There are still quality rare semi known originals out there to be grabbed for £5 to £50......Just not William Powell, Mel Brit, etc etc etc.

If you spend a couple of hours trawling through discogs listening to vinyl you haven't heard of before or ones you remember from the old days that never took off you can still get quality records cheap - Just not the well known trophy records. Who knows, your £5 bargain may be a 2k sound in 6 months, (doubtful I know, but we still buy lottery tickets). :)

I dont know exactly when prices went this crazy but it was still possible to buy lots of good hard to find records at sensible prices in 2000 and probably for most of the decade after. Maybe 2010 and after things got silly ?

Yes I agree mate it was around then when someone pushed the silly button. The main problem with things at the moment is that there is far to much emphasis on known records that are price driven by demand rather than rarity. Demand & rarity has always been a fine balance & the scales have tipped the wrong way. The prime example is this weeks auction results where on ebay Alfie Davison fetches nearly £700 but The Rotations on Manships fetches under £400...I would guess there are 1000 Alfie's for every Rotations (?).

Also, we have a lockdown situation where sounds arent getting dropped & replaced on a regular basis so rarer less known sounds are not getting pushed...........Just my opinion of course, but I'm wrong on a regular basis according to my wife.
