Daptone's 100th 45 Release -The Daptone Family

Daptone's 100th 45 Release -The Daptone Family magazine cover

The Family Daptone - Hey Brother (Do Unto Others)

Soon out on 45 and digital too.

Today, we are proud to share with you “Hey Brother (Do Unto Others),” the A-side to our 100th 45. Out June 28th, the 45 features the late great monarchs of our Daptone family, Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones, as well as Saun & Starr, the Frightnrs, James Hunter, Naomi Shelton, Duke Amayo and Lee Fields, singing a message of righteousness and brotherhood over a groove sewn seamlessly together by members of The Dap-Kings and Menahan Street Band.

Written by The Frightnrs, the song originally appeared on their acclaimed LP, Nothing More to Say. In the wake of the tragic loss of singer Dan Klein to ALS just before the album’s release, we felt it would be a fitting tribute to re-imagine the tune as a soulful collaboration between the dynamic vocalists on our label. What started as a thank you to our beloved fans has now also become a loving tribute to our lost Brothers and Sister: Charles Bradley, Dan Klein, Cliff Driver, and our eternal Queen, Miss Sharon Jones.

“Hey Brother (Do Unto Others)” is available digitally everywhere tomorrow, June 14th.

Great tune, was going to buy the shaped picture disc but could justify the £15 postage, same with Colemine releases. Shame really but I guess we've got the private postal companies for lobbying the US government for that 🙄

I know what you mean, but then again these US 45 soul releases are high quality, this one came with the picture disc plus the black vinyl 45

Yes it’s layered in there for sure👍

Really like the Frightnrs version from 2016 too.

The Futures had a great track of similar title from’75
