Cecil Womack RIP magazine cover

It seems that Cecil Womack passed away earlier this week in Africa where he had been living with Linda (Womack & Womack) for the last few years.

Both Bobby & Curtis have confirmed his death & Curtis has stated that Cecil wants his ashes spread over a river near where they have been living.

All 3 Womack brothers were in the early line-up of the Valentinos and after Bobby went solo, the other brothers kept the group going (though I'm unsure which of them sang lead on "Sweeter Than The Day Before".

Cecil was married to Mary Wells & they had children together (who live in the US).

....... Another singer has left us...

RIP Cecil.

Sad news Roburt. Thanks for the information - you are very knowledgeable about lots of stuff. Sounds like Cecil and Linda really returned to their roots - quite poignant.

Cheers

I remember that one getting spins Jock.

Seems to be the only news lately is bad news concerning the singers and acts we all follow.

RIP Cecil.

Nice post Jocko. I love some of these vids showing tracks being recorded - it highlights all the skill and all of the different people involved.

Thanks

Just for info

a lot of news sites are linking to this and giving the date of passing on as the 1st feb

even though John says it seems was earlier in the week

The below tweet from a South African radio station gives the date of passing on as the friday before the date of the tweet 30th Jan

I have just found out that an earlier version of this news item was posted on the southern soul yahoo group

at the below link

https://launch.groups...l/message/73096

am only just aware of this and it seems that the author of this news item had just passed on the words without any mention/credit or any sort of acknowledgement to the original source

as this site owner I like to offer my apoligies to anyone involved with the thread on the southern soul forum and the site/group itself

do insist that credit/links to the actual source etc should be made when using info from elsewhere as per normal internet practice

the original article will be edited to reflect this and action will be taken to try and ensure that this doesn't happen again

He also had a hand in writing and production at Philadelphia International. Including writing credits on classics such as "Love TKO"

A very great loss.

One of the founding fathers of our music, and a very fine singer and songwriter.

Saddened.
